This update has been a year in the making and so glad to finally have it out there!
I’m ready to take on Trello, Asana and Todoist over the next few updates 👀
Get it now:
Launching next week
@thetaskapp
!
So thrilled to be finally completing this and uploading my first app to the Mac App Store! 🚀
Would you say this is a Catalyst app with 100% code sharing?
Tasks was born in my mind today, a year ago!
It took me 3 months to plan the app, it’s features and data model!
Since then 85000 downloads, 1700+ paid users and I went full time indie! I’ll write about it all very soon.
Developers on twitter really inspired me, thank you ❤️
It’s been exactly a year since this account was created. A few interesting facts:
- Tasks was made because
@mufasaYC
could not find a native task manager good enough to plan his potential indie app (ended up becoming it)
- designed & coded in 2.5 months by a single person 👨💻
September couldn’t have started on a better note
- on the 3rd my first child, Hasan was born 👶🏻
- the very next day
@thetaskapp
crossed over 500 paid subscribers 💰
After 14 hours,
@thetaskapp
now has a independent watchOS app! You can use the entire app without the need to even launch the iOS/mac app! It is kind of crazy how quick I was able to do this 🤯
I’ll start with this, the Apple Vision Pro is insanely good!
Watching my Mac screen on it is amazing, the pixels are almost unbelievably good on it
However, let me compile the buts below
It’s been a complete year! I truly cannot believe how this one app has changed my life!
I have a blog series prepared which I will share soon, about my journey and experience of going from a full time job to indie!
Thank you for inspiring me folks 💙
A lot of developers on Twitter who don’t even know me have helped me achieve this feat by posting motivational content along side sharing their inspirational work and journey! Thank you to all of you for making this community amazing 🙇🏻♂️♥️
Apple actually left a way for non-US Apple ID folks to enjoy the apps.
Sign in with your US Apple ID > install all the apps you want > logout > login to your regular App Store account > all apps are there and working ❤️❤️❤️
My first company, asked me questions about linked lists, sorting algorithms etc.
I told them, I use .sort() and can look up and learn other techniques and whether our existing app uses linked lists to which they replied no.
They asked me relevant questions next. I got that job.
In 2020, I started from scratch and launched my second indie project (my first one failed), within a few months made my annual salary and now I’m working on it full time!
Extremely excited for 2021 and to take
@thetaskapp
to much greater heights!
Think it, build it, ship it 🌟
I worked all summer to deliver a good iOS 16 update for
@thetaskapp
and the hard work paid off! I’m really glad with how launch week turned out - welcoming 27,000+ new users to the app ❤️
Some days, I just sit and stare at
@thetaskapp
and I can’t believe I made it. I love that I’m using it to build the app itself and have amazing people all around the world supporting me!
Thank you ❤️
@stroughtonsmith
A simple task manager think of it as notes + reminders + jira/trello!
Create multiple projects, organise with tags and customise your workflow for your individual projects!
Sharing and syncing across all devices.
@thetaskapp
launches in 2 days (1st of June) 🚀
Making Mac apps is the new thing, just like making iPad apps used to be and before that iPhone apps!
Mac App Store might finally become extremely useful with a variety of apps. Maybe reduce browser usage and have good native apps with a nicer system integration!
My first time being ready for an iOS release with my indie app and it’s been some experience. Inspite of rush, amazing effort shown by the developers who made their grand iOS 14 launch and some yet to 🚀
@thetaskapp
was featured in over 48 countries across 127 lists 🤯 🎉⭐️
Lessons as an indie dev - A thread
Good apps don’t sell themselves, you have to sell them yourself. This is going to be a story about my failed app
@pocketLingo
I spent a lot of time, nearly 6 months and money to get content made from teachers and all for $100 in total sales
You’re just a couple of thousand lines of code away from a couple of thousand dollars!
Build that app you want and be patient
May 2020 - $45
June 2020 - $10,000
I got a picture with Craig and Joz, but this is by far my favorite picture I take back with me post WWDC!
Random strangers (now close friends???) who agreed to get an Airbnb together!

Tasks usually makes around $700-$1000 a week and it could help support a bunch of families during this massive wave of COVID. It’s a very small part that I can play, but it could mean everything for a family out there.
Let’s make a difference.
100% of our proceeds for the next 7 days starting now will be donated for the COVID relief efforts in India. It is definitely a small gesture but could go to help save a couple of families out there making a big impact 🤝
#IndiaCovidCrisis
This is what I wanted to achieve in
@thetaskapp
. I started building Tasks to allow users to *very* easily make complex queries and have their lists in their style!!
IT IS FINALLY DONE! Shipping in about 7 days along with support for folders along with a big Black Friday sale 🎁
Just an appreciation post for
@twostraws
who is working so hard right now to put out quality content as quickly as possible so a lot developers and upcoming developers can take advantage of the new things that have been announced! Thank you Paul ❤️

It’s been a real tough and hectic week. I was diagnosed with COVID along with my wife and maybe my 8 month son (who had a 103 fever, but he much much better now).
It’s so hard when we have to take care of ourselves and him.
Hope y’all are taking care and staying safe Tweeters
On this flight with the Apple Vision Pro, it feels like I’m sitting in a park bench in the most ambient and serene location with my Mac working. Flights are so much more bearable with it and everything in the AVP is absolutely STILL. Madness!!!
@BrianNorgard
Maybe not next, but definitely right up there. More Indians are stepping out to become entrepreneurs and catching up on way to scale a product efficiently. Build in India and distribute globally, that’s the sweet spot. Already have a working product, now to growing it!
In roughly 24 hours, developers from all over the world will reunite, with their breakfast/lunch/snacks/dinner and sit glued to watch WWDC livestream.
Dispersed but a united community, have a wonderful week folks! 💙
Got this beautiful update out as a part of
@thetaskapp
’s annual iOS+watchOS release!
Extremely proud of this update which has paved the way for some really cool features that’ll be launched next month, stay tuned!

team! Meet Hasan! Top skills include refactoring code (aka selecting blocks of code and hitting delete)
We are now raising 10,000 baby formula’s for 2% equity stake in our start up!
Spot me if you can!
It was a pleasure being the keynote speaker for this opening, meeting
@gregjoz
and all the talented folks at the new Developer Center!
So much energy and excitement at the opening of the Developer Center at our new office in Bengaluru! The continued innovation and creativity from this extraordinary community of developers is thrilling to see!
The real world through it is decent, not real enough
However when you set an environment it is beautiful
I’m in a coffee shop, with an environment on and was so immersed. When I took of my headset, realised anyone could just take my bag and I wouldn’t realise it 🤣
If Reddit ever IPOs everyone at Times Square should sport this to jog their memory that it was apps like Apollo and other 3rd party apps that they ran over to get there
Judging by the amount of Apollo merch that’s sold in the last two weeks without me even mentioning it, maybe I should be in the t-shirt biz instead of apps
So, if you want to pick some up, there’s a bunch of stuff available at

annnnd it’s already time for next WWDC 😵
Something that has been on my mind for a very long time and I think I’ll do it in 2024 - a conference for all things Apple developer related in India and it’s going to be grand🤞
⭐️ It’s just so delightful! To have a one person dev effort be compared to the effort of Apple is the highest praise I think I could receive, going to make
@thetaskapp
the best app out there!
Sharing some of my favs 👇
Inspite of working on my solo indie apps, I reply to users - “We will fix that right away”, there is no we, or maybe we is Xcode and myself, because Xcode really needs to help me out here 👀
This WWDC is going to transform iMessage, almost everything they’re using on their site to the hashflag is using an iMessage like theme! I’m super excited
#WWDC21
So so so excited about this finally shipping! It was some long nights and early mornings.
Rewrote a bunch of core functionality to pave the way for something really cool coming next month. Check it out and RTs appreciated ❤️
I don’t know why I took so long to fix this - but a native-like Preferences window for
@thetaskapp
by
@stroughtonsmith
+ SwiftUI helped me achieve this within just 4 hours! It’s also live on the App Store now!
Just a very very rough way of how markdown is rendered with the new AttributedString. So if you’re looking for just normal formatting, it’s great! Excited for the sessions helping us dive deeper into this
#WWDC21
Commencing the "checkbox" journey for
@thetaskapp
, will be sharing the steps to make a native looking Mac app from an existing iPad app. Let the journey begin! It's going to be a fun experience 😃
Brief 2021 review:
- Full time indie on
@thetaskapp
- Had plenty of firsts with my one year old
- Moving into a new home
- Went from indie to a bootstrapped team of 4
Looking forward to a positive and bright 2022! A very Happy New Year folks and stay safe 🎊
I feel handicapped that I can’t build the backend for my own apps, I know there are alternatives like supabase, etc but I want to be able to build my own 😞
