The first week of school should focus on building relationships. And part of that is establishing routines, procedures, and expectations. Consistency helps students feel more secure.

I am a teacher. But when I create materials for my students, I'm a writer. When I keep a class engaged, I'm an entertainer. When I give them advice for their future, I'm a mentor. That's why teaching is such a great profession: You get to do so many different things! #education

I don't think people know how long it takes to give quality feedback on kids' writing.

Two elements of virtual learning that should continue in person: 1. Building digital resources so that students can access content anywhere and anytime. 2. Greater appreciation for self-paced learning to truly differentiate instruction. It’s what’s best for kids.

We may try to standardize testing but we can never standardize learning. The aha moments, the small wins, a concept finally clicking with a struggling student, etc. rarely occur because of the curriculum or the lesson plan.

If we can inspire kids to care about learning, they'll figure out the rest on their own. They’ll learn the facts, the grammar, and the history the minute it helps them reach a goal or satisfy a curiosity. That’s how they’re wired.

The best teachers didn’t simply teach a subject effectively. They awakened a dormant passion that you didn’t know existed. Good teachers got you to understand math. Transformative teachers got you to understand yourself.

Virtual Tutorials-not just for academics. Had great open discussions with students about life, growing up, what our favourite foods are and what animals we would be. Grateful for this role I’ve stepped into & being able to converse with such brilliant minds!#SEL #virtuallearning

Teaching #SlamPoetry in a virtual learning classroom has been both enriching & challenging. However, one thing (& the most important one) remain the same: no bounds of technology can constrict the real emotion & layered thoughts these young writers are weaving. #SimplyPoetic

When the pandemic and online learning forced one teacher to re-examine her emphasis on homework, she came to realize that reducing or eliminating homework was a “social and emotional intervention.” https://t.co/JBQsr2bl3f

A schoolwide effort to reduce homework has led to a renewed focus on ensuring that all work assigned really aids students’ learning.
