3/ As de Deugd nears the city, his car lights go off suddenly. Ahead of him is a huge object with a blue light in the middle and two smaller white lights on the sides. As he steps out of the car, a flash of light strikes him and he feels heat, so he ducks behind his open door.

2/He asks if the hitchhiker is going to Bahía Balance, but the man’s reply is unintelligible. He is wearing a coat with a turned-up collar and a large round cap. He has a jaw so elongated that it comes down almost to his chest. Further efforts to communicate prove futile.
