Faster resolution, faster builds. Yesterday's Metro release included a bunch of performance improvements to our resolver, making it around 15x faster. That's especially good news for warm builds.

A key goal I had here was to visually explain the GR-55's quirky signal path, and let the user change the variable parts, in a way that wasn't overwhelming. Compare the above to these attempts (from the venerable GR-55 FloorBoard app & from Roland's user's manual, respectively).

The infrastructure that enables symlink support in @MetroBundler is a major update to how we do file watching - which is *crucial* to get right in a build system. Expect Metro to become even faster and more reliable in future releases.

We did a thing. (Well, @robjhogan did, mostly.).
Symlink support in Metro! (Beta) 🎉. With today’s React Native 0.72 release, Metro can now follow symlinks, to work better inside monorepos and with package managers such as pnpm.

Today I loaded up a build of this app on an iPad and took it to a jam session. I did the thing! It worked really well. And I think this React Native thing might catch on.
And this is where I am now: a React Native app running on my phone that can control a few dozen parameters on the GR-55. From here it's a matter of (1) coding up the full address map, (2) building a nicer UI, (3) fixing some bugs in the native MIDI layer, (4) buying a tablet.
