My mom named me Marian b/c she figured Americans could spell/pronounce it well (her words). In HS there was a kid who refused to learn my name and kept calling me "M". and he was a white American. We can't win either way now can we?.
Why the name thing is so triggering to me and so many other Asians. A thread. I spent my entire adult life in the U.S. by my "nickname" Michelle because I hated dealing with the burden of correcting people each time they got my name wrong.

This. As I always mention to those who say they "haven't had those experiences": just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean they don't happen at all.
My request for IWD. Please believe women's experiences. I'm sure they're shocking to you. I'm sure you think someone couldn't have possibly meant it that way. And yet, they happen every day.
