New research in @NatureClimate w/ @erickUdeM, @ProfKHarrison and I. Stadelmann-Steffen. Two countries have set up carbon tax + rebates: Canada + Switzerland. Have these rebates increased public carbon pricing support, as advocates hope? Not really. 1/🧵 https://t.co/iApImia8Yz

2023 was a beautiful year until it was a horrible year. I tried to capture it in this piece for @nytopinion, about caregiving, community, and creating create the society we want to live in. Another world is possible!

Hot off the press, with @raul_climate – a meta-review of the scholarly literature on net zero now online with @Climate_Policy. What do we know about how to get to net zero – not as much as we need to (no surprise there) THREAD https://t.co/7ExC4PHxcq

This goes beyond ethanol to a whole panoply of tax credits including direct pay for tax-exempt entities on energy tax credits. Informative for imagining IRA durability in a post-2025 Republican trifecta world. IRA provides big benefits for red districts, making repeal tricky.

here we go @derrickvanorden (R-Wis), one member worried about ethanol, will propose an amendment “strike sections…that repeal tax credits for carbon oxide sequestration, nuclear power, biodiesel, renewable diesel, + alternative fuels… ethanol, + sustainable aviation fuel.”

Really important research note by my colleague here at @UCSBPoliSci. @DTRMasterson - shows just how severely UC PhD students are underpaid relative to the cost of living. Hopefully, student action as part of the current strike will help remedy this gap.

I have become desensitived to the millenials-destroying-society-genre of news article, but this CNN piece breaks new ground. Why growing indoor plants (!!) is the real environmental problem, a function of - evidently - millenials being obsessed with Pinterest. 🤣

Critical reporting on Biden climate strategy - admin used imminent climate emergency declaration as stick to bring Manchin back to the table. It worked! We got climate legislation that will transform and decarbonize in a way executive action simply can't.

I am so proud of the climate movement. They organized. They advocated. They fought. And we didn’t get all that we wanted, we got a win. And we get to fight again. And I can’t wait to do it.
