Not understanding is not the same as not respecting I daresay thats what empathy is all abt? The ability to know that you dont have to understand everything to respect someones culture or feeling

As a south east asian all i can/will say is If they say no and isnt giving you "a straight" answer thats not your place to push further Even if they took their time to explain it to you it might not be a concept you can comprehend And its fine to not understand different culture

Some of our sacred place also have this rule And i surmised that westerners might not understand the exact reason So i tried googling it And i was right The lack of 1 specific exact answer some take as "unclear" and "a hot-podge" of excuses

I went to the sanjusangendo and nanzenji in kyoto today It was amazing. I noticed we werent allowed to take pics of some room, statues and ornaments Which as a south east asian just seeing them in person i understand immediately why no photos are allowed

im currently at kyoto's manga museum and they are holding a manga and war exhibit. Its amazing how the exhibit recognizes what japan did to okinawa But im saddened to see no mention of indonesia occupation in the timeline at all
