for the @guardian, i spent two weeks aboard the groundbreaking neoliner origin (@NeolineOnline), the world's largest wind-powered cargo ship, on its inaugural transatlantic voyage. what an adventure — hurricane-force winds, dolphins and sea sickness ahoy! https://t.co/6A8XrL7p2y

In an abandoned military barracks in rural Germany, Ben Green is preparing for the end of the world. For @Hazlitt, @mmcavanagh spent a week with him to find out what exactly it looks like to try to escape climate collapse:

a year later i’m still asking myself: how can we cope with uncertainty as we oscillate between doom and hope? i’m grateful to have had the chance to work it out for @hazlitt: https://t.co/e6ZQcy5Tme (and to @ameliaschonbek for the clear-eyed and thoughtful edits!)

at the Collapse Laboratory, ben gathered like-minded people who believed that climate collapse wasn’t just imminent, it was happening now — and that we needed to think deeply about how to show up for it. i was curious.

our host was a man named ben green (@thepirateben). in 2019, he bought the biggest, cheapest, most isolated piece of land he could find in germany and started what he calls “one man’s ten-year plan to build a post-climate catastrophe community”.

last summer i spent a week living in an old army barracks-turned-eco-bunker, deep in the east german forest. i was there for the Collapse Laboratory, a retreat that brought people together to think about how to prepare for the end of the world.

i'm working on a project that does exactly this. it's great to see this expressed so clearly and urgently, and i agree: we desperately need stories that explore the emotional landscape of the climate crisis to show us how to live right now.

i'm excited to spend the next two months as a visiting researcher at the @CarsonCenter at the LMU in munich 🌱 i'll be working on my @ukings MFA project about the emotional landscape of the climate crisis (and creating a local library power ranking, probably)
