(4) pmf can be viewed both as a burden, such as a potential hazard, and ag relief prog. for loss due to pmf thaw do not exist; and as an asset to be preserved, such as providing financial incentives to preserve pmf, like c credit programs + including pmf in climate smart ag prog.

We provide 7 case studies spanning the US, Canada, Northern Fennoscandia, Russia, Mongolia, and Nepal highlighting these systems complexities interacting not only with permafrost thaw and environmental change, but also economies, industries and policies.

These systems are expected to get the largest gains in arable area with ag expected to shift northward but we do not know their exact locations and datasets are patchy or non-existent. We argue data is needed and provide a proxy to which countries these are likely most prominent.

New paper in @arctic_alpine of the 1st global study on permafrost-agroecosystems, any ag activity like crops cultivation + animal husbandry in permafrost areas. Funding includes @ipapermafrost #NSF @PermafrostGrown and #EU Horizon 2020 @CharterArctic.

Excited to share an article I wrote for @AlaskaMagazine for my research funded by @NASAEarth New Investigator Program. “Shapes on the Tundra” is about ice wedge polygons on the AK Coastal Plain where they cover ~60% of the land surface. Check it out in the Feb issue! @uafairbanks
