Wow the amount of PHP mentioned here is quite amazing. But I agree, I've worked on some ancient PHP code bases that just still work and in some cases aren't that hard to upgrade to newer versions (even if still EOL). Second for me would be dotnet (F# for stability)
Real question: If you needed to build a simple CRUD SaaS, but it has to last decades with minimal/no maintenance, how would you build it?

Just checked Dell's laptop offerings.... WTF did they do? Most of the options were terrible and no way to customise the laptop that looked reasonable. Really is 512gb storage enough for most? I feel like for a $2k+ laptop 1tb should be the minimum

Why does X think I'm a bot? It's because I booted into Linux earlier and my time back on Windows was wrong!!

How do you get devs to ask more questions or confirm their assumptions?

Want to move to Linux as my main OS as I'm still on Win10 and don't want to go Win 11. How is everyone handling Office suite? I still need Word/Excel for client work so need a solution. RDP access was also a poorer experience last time, anything new there?

And this is why I donβt want to get any more Apple products and want to avoid Apple stores. So much risk that most donβt even realise is there.
Do I know anyone at Apple? I've lost this week trying to get my macOS app notarized Notarization jobs would just stall and get stuck on Xcode for days! So I wrote an email to Apple Developer Support And the next thing I know is they TERMINATED my entire Developer Account?!

TIL the .name TLD allows for 3rd level registration. https://t.co/CoN9ei5jFW is allowed! It blocks the 2nd level but makes DNS lookups a bit strange!

Is it f# friendly or should I just suck it up and use c# to learn this?
Time to drop the really big bomb @AkkaDotNET is the simplest solution for doing event-driven programming in .NET and it even plays nicely with all of the others too, so you should totally learn it. πin next post

Windows 11 rant #3 Why does changing my power profile need to open another setting window? Win 10 just has it on a slider, super easy to access and adjust without waiting seconds to open the settings.

Solution to most of my issues... just turn off the internet. Wow, please someone make a better OS that isn't tied to over priced computers and ecosystem. Linux isn't there for a normal user

Windows 11.... want to add an account? Sure just wait while I load a browser and assume you want a Microsoft one and make it hard not to. It's been a while since a fresh windows install, it's WAAAY worse than it ever used to be. Microsoft are just pushing tech people away

Wow starting Edge on a new PC is super obnoxious! Just let me into the browser or give me a way to skip your questions. Might suck in some people but makes me even like it less.

Even if they believe it, for most people what are they going to do though? We all predict things and probably most are wrong, maybe this is different? Every time we have some massive change like computing or automation more jobs are created elsewhere, will the same happen?
What I still don't understand is the following: Scientists and CEOs of the most important companies in the world say that: -will cure all diseases in 5-10 years (Dario Amodei, Demis Hassabis, Masayoshi Son, Sam Altman) - in 1-3 years we will see 10%-20% unemployment (Dario

Wasted time learning VIM just as AI started doing all my programming for me.

Ok this was a good API error, makes me wonder what is the monolith internally? `HTTP fetch failed from 'monolith': 500: Internal Server Error`

None of my kids even got training wheels. Vim mode day 1 for riding a bike
When a little boy is learning to ride a bike, his father is always first to take off the training wheels. The mother always says, "But he'll fall!" When we started pretending women could lead, they kept the training wheels on, and boys grew into men who can't do anything, and

Naming consistency is hard, isn't it @jetbrains Assuming most people don't use multiple language refs but at least some are consistent?
