Today I held up a burning birthday candle so that students could observe the presence of energy. When we were done, I asked if I should make a wish while I blow it out, even though it’s not my birthday. They said yes, because I deserve it 🥺

Fourth graders used the “draggable” feature on @PearDeck to plot characters based on whether they were good or bad and clever or foolish. Then, they supported their opinions with text evidence in breakout rooms.

Me: What are some things that use batteries? 10 year old: Mm computer mouse, remote, phone... Me: Yeah, some phones use batteries! Others plug into the wall. 10 y.o.: Phones plug into the wall??? Oh yeah, like the ones that are shaped like bananas! And now I feel 100 years old.

A parent told me that when his daughter made a mistake, she said, “That’s okay! Miss LaBounty says mistakes are how we learn!” He thanked me for my work and told me I’m in the right place. It was such a meaningful compliment and a humbling reminder of my impact as an educator.

9 years old: Miss LaBounty, what did you eat for lunch? Me: Pasta! 9 year old: Oh. Not a salad? I thought all teachers ate salad... Just wait until I tell him about the entire box of mac and cheese I ate for lunch yesterday...

It’s an awesome moment when you get to sit back an watch two students working together during office hours, instead of asking the teacher for help. A third student joined as they were working and said, “I see teamwork!”

Students found so many ways to solve! Naturally this problem launched us into a lengthy discussion about Oreos, after which a student said, “I’ve never had a teacher talk about food!” Could be worse things to be known for. Maybe I’ll get some Oreos for Christmas. 😅

Fourth grade virtual choral count by 2. I use @PearDeck so that students can share their responses, and I record them on paper using a doc cam. I love that all students get the chance to share the patterns they noticed. @GauthierKaren1 #ChoralCounting #CapoCGI

I had my students create one slide each on a Google Slides presentation as a digital birthday card for our first shelter in place birthday so far. Hoping to make a birthday spent at home just a little brighter. 🥳

I told my students it was my sister’s birthday, and one sweet student made a card for her. This is the card and my sister’s reaction. Kids are the best.

March Madness: Dr. Seuss style. Students will fill out their own bracket until they narrow it down to a favorite. They will then support their choice with reasons in an opinion paragraph. #ReadAcrossAmerica
