So in the 80s no one was drinking when they raved, so the alcohol industry lobbied the government to crack down on illegal raves because no one was buying alcohol and they weren’t making any money - creating todays club culture that revolves around booze
FUNDING THREAD!!
I have been lucky enough to receive funding which has massively helped me in my career development. There r loads out there but I think there is often a lack of info about whats available so here’s a list of Uk based ones I know of:
I really wish it was the norm for platforms like
@boilerroomtv
and
@Mixmag
to credit the producers who made the track when posting DJ clips online. some of these clips go super viral due to the track and you can see lots of people asking for track IDs in the comments.
electronic music today needs and relies on alcohol to survive. It was never in the best interest of young people to criminalise mdma and other alternatives to alcohol so they could be enjoyed safely. Corporate interests once again come out on top, even if means causing harm.
Tola, Peckham audio, fox & firkin, carpet shop, colour factory, the jazz cafe, the yard, ton of brix, Loki, jumbi, moko, spanners, Ormside, venue MOT, the cause, phonox, grow hackney, Corsica studios
So few impromptu "good nights out" in London possible. Where are the places with good music and reasonably priced drinks where you don't have to pay to sit. If you ask people they bring up one place max two. We can't all go to those two places!
I just feel like in 2023 we are in a position where we have a lot more information and our governments can make a more informed science and public health based decisions on drug and alcohol policy.
But no the home office is cracking down on drugs testing sites at festivals 🙃
Now that festival season is in full swing: my annual PSA to DJs to please credit the producers who made the tracks when posting clips online.
A lot of these producers will never get a chance to play on these big festival stages, so a credit is the bare minimum you can do.
A thread on visas and work permits for EU/UK musicians & DJs:
firstly, Brexit is a shit-show and we all wish it wasn’t happening but I want to share some info that I think will be useful and will reassure you that it’s not going to be as difficult as people are making out.

and look out for an even bigger announcement next week! 🛩🌍💕
And if you live in London and you want to try out an alcohol free party then come through to Club Soft tomorrow afternoon / evening at Colour Factory :)
This is the dumbest shit ever, if u have based ur whole career around playing other people’s music then u have no right to claim ownership of exclusivity over any track. Stfu
calculated i've helped creatives write successful funding applications totalling over £100,000 this year :)
If you need help with an application, I've got some time to give feedback/edits before the year ends, my dms are open!
Bryte has moved to London! He’s here on a tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa, it’s available to those comsidered exceptional talents in their field who will benefit from living in the UK for up to 5 years
Excited for this new chapter!! 🇬🇧
I stopped drinking 6 years ago due to health reasons, and since then it's been a dream of mine to create an alcohol-free party.

Dear Men who comment on my DJing/technical skills online, if only u spent less time commenting and more time making bangers maybe u wd be as successful as I am 💁🏻♀️
We’ve never been nominated for any awards or included in any “hype” lists but we sold out The Jazz Cafe last night!!
It shows that even if ur not getting industry support you can still grow a really dedicated fanbase. ppl travelled from Europe just to see us play last night 🥺
I'm starting out as a freelance grant writer! I have written successful applications to the arts council, PRS Foundation, help musicians UK and more, and am available to provide advice/help with writing and budgeting etc
my dms are open!
I’m super excited to announce I’m launching an alcohol free party on June 18th at the Colour Factory Garden! 🧃
This party is about creating an alternative space for the sober gang 💖
Joined by some of my fave DJs!
@wrongisland
Yea really sad that 1 death was given as an example of how dangerous mdma is compared to the 100s of 1000s of deaths associated with alcohol.
As much as I think video culture is super important + creative, a lot of artists can’t afford to spend £1000+ on videos for every single and it just means that so much dope music gets ignored and overlooked
even tho he wasn't officially credited, dj spoko helped create the percussion lines for township funk, arguably one of the most iconic and brilliant electronic music tracks of the last 10 years
When ppl say success is all about “doing you” and “being yourself” it’s just BS. Yes it’s a factor but also luck, who you know, how u look, what’s popping at the time. There are tonnes of hugely talented + hard working ppl out there who deserve success but don’t have it.
romanticising this idea of "digging" in the internet era and using that as justification to not share tracks is wild to me.
producers work soo hard, many do not have access to revenue streams, gigs or touring opportunities, it's the absolute bare minimum you can do to support.
I can’t believe that there’s even a counter argument for sharing your tracklists loool it’s giving 1990’s it’s literally 2024 and the music isn’t even yours??
Today marks two years since I quit my job to do music full time! Never expected to last this long, I remember working in a school during the Sentah release and sneaking off to the toilets to answer emails
buying music on bandcamp is always the best way to support independent labels and artists. i've made more money in two weeks from pre-sales of my album on bandcamp then i probably ever will on spotify
Happy 1 year anniversary to the greatest
@boilerroomtv
of all time!
Nearly 2 million views across fb/yt and I still get messages from ppl saying they watch it regularly 💕
Not drinking and constantly having to explain why u don’t drink can be so tiring, there’s no other drug where ppl would be baffled why u don’t do it 🤷🏻♀️ But I guess some ppls whole identity is beer lol so they can’t comprehend
there's already such a huge imbalance with DJs getting all the money and the credit when it comes things like streams and live shows.
crediting producers for me seems like a small way to address this imbalance.
if you are a creative and you are not regularly applying for funding opportunities then you are massively missing out!
there's so many opportunities out there, application forms help you to crystallise ideas and every rejection is a chance to reflect and refine your project

@boilerroomtv
just hit a million views again!!! I used to get excited about 1000 plays on soundcloud so yes I will post every time I hit a million views lol
Shout out everyone liking + sharing particular the nerds who don’t know about inbuilt limiters 😘
so many london festivals book the same artists each year, i dont get it bc most of these festivals usually sell out before the whole line up is even released so why dont they take some risks on the smaller stages?
i remember when getting 1000 plays on soundcloud was the main goal of career lol.
now my main goal is to be driven round on one of those golf buggies at a festival
the producer may never have a chance to play BR or Mixmag lab themselves, being credited is a small thing that would have a massive impact on that producer.
This the crazy sound you get when you mix the Accra with the London 🇬🇭🇬🇧
The Flight Paths Tour with
@bryte_music
starts today in Stockholm at Under Bron, and Saturday at Mejeriet in Lund 🇸🇪
O M G my album is finally out!!!!!!! So grateful to everyone that has supported me n given me the confidence to put out this project!
I hope it brings you as much joy listening as it did for me to make it!
Do u know how many hours of hard work, love and time go into creating a piece of music? And u think no one else can play it cos u “discovered” it on soundcloud. Bye
This is a really useful graphic for UK musicians.
only 4 EU countries are actually going to be significantly more difficult to perform in and require a work permit
I’m sure with further clarity a lot more will move into the green zone
Bryte is one of the most unique and talented artists alive right now and it was an honour to be a part of this album!!!
The reaction we've had when performing these tracks live has been incredible and we've already got some BIG shows booked for next year
for those of you who don't know,
@bryte_music
cut his teeth in street rap battles and can rap in at least 5 languages and over a multitude of different genres. he's not from a privileged background with big industry connections, he's worked super hard to get to this point!
London-based Ghanaian rapper and vocalist Bryte (
@bryte_music
) brings his unique blend of afro-electronic, rap, and experimental club sounds to COLORS in a thrilling performance of ‘Olukeke’. 🔥
Full show:
remixes for major labels shd always include a demo fee as its crazy that u can do all this work potentially for free if they dont use it. ppl just think ur gonna get gassed about the artist n not care, but i'm busy and value my time.
Writer producer grant. This is the one I received, it’s for producers and songwriters. My grant went towards two trips to Ghana, two music videos, software, studio equipment, studio hire, mixdowns etc
just hit 4000 followers! i once dated a guy that had 1000 followers on soundcloud and i was genuinely so impressed and amazed lol.
fellas slide into my DMs ive got 4000 now :-)
My first 5 months of 2019 already looking so lit I can’t wait 😭😭 Kenya + South Africa, Berghain, Asia with Bryte, America and my first major EU festival booking 🙏🏼🙏🏼 ++ maybe some new music too 👀
