anyway I need to reread frankenstein again…. and watch the movie a few times more….

where victor is “only monsters play god,” ei is more like “a god who sees herself as a mere monster, unworthy of creating such gentle beings.” and yet, both stories end in the same sorrowful refrain. it was fear that drove them away from the mirror that dared to look back. 🚬

in one aspect, both pairs embody the tragedy of creation without ever fully acknowledging the depth of what their own hands were capable of, a “parent” who wanted perfection but recoiled at what they made when it mirrored their flaws too closely.

thematically, the gist of the creation-creature portrayed as familial has inspired many forms of literature. god-adam and eve (bible), victor-the creature (mary shelly), and.. (drums roll) I said it a few times before but this is a perfect opportunity to bring them up again 🥳

the creature was not wrong for looking upon the first figure he ever saw and mistaking him for something sacred, for someone worth clinging to. it was not the creature who sinned by loving; it was victor who damned himself by refusing to.

he has brought into being. there’s something so damning about responsibility. you may not have meant to create a son, but once life has opened its eyes to you, you do not get to turn away. and no, there is no redemption in saying victor had his own trauma too.

the creature yearns only for love and acceptance, yet he isn’t even granted the simple mercy of a name. victor cannot see past the face he himself stitched together (every inch of it born from his own hands btw) and fails to recognize the pure, aching beauty of the soul-

at some point in the book, the creature called victor papa, while that cruel, wretched scientist beat every last ounce of innocence out of him. there’s something twistedly poetic about a man who plays god, yet refuses to see his creation as something a god would—his son.

I wish the warmth that turned rage within him will eventually grant him the embrace he deserves.

being familiar with the book doesn't make it easy 🚬🚬🚬🚬 ah, a being who has tasted affection in his dreams and woken to find it forever denied... his hands became instruments of vengeance, not because he craved blood, but because pain was the only language left to him....

he was forced to exist in the world that saw only his hideous form and called him evil. how heartbreaking is that, to watch his kindness withering beneath the cold weight of loneliness...of being shunned and casted away...

it's good to know that even with oscar isaac's face, I still wish victor frankenstein eternity in hell 😔 the creature was born with a heart capable of tenderness and a soul that longed only for love and belonging..... my baby was met instead with horror and rejection.

oh to be wrought from an ambition so fervent it blinds even its creator. to awaken with eyes so untainted and find them dimmed by the very hands that gave them sight. to be crushed beneath the weight of a world that calls you 'monster' until you become its prophecy.
