While today is a milestone, we aren't pausing. We know there's much to fine tune in how we deploy foundation models to get the best performance, & features that will be critical to integrating Earth Index into regular workflows. Tell us what works today and what more you need.

We work closely with many partners to solve their needs for new data and apply their data. Staying close to immediate problems of environmental problems has given us such strong focus to prioritize what's most important in the experience of Earth Index.

And thoughtfully prioritize and focus product features and interactions to surface the most immediately useful functionality. The last point is key. We love technology but ultimately we care about substantial contribution to a more sustainable world.

Working with AI models is hard. Working with Earth data is hard. It doesn't have to be. I've been blown away by our scrappy team pulling together to process and set up infrastructure to preposition the entire world.

Earth Foundation Models having a break out moment? Great talking with @jackiesnow about the positive impact this human centered approach to Earth data and AI is having today.
Our work with @mongabay leveraging Earth Index profiled in the Wall Street Journal as tangible example of impact with Earth data AI Foundation models. https://t.co/IKd1CvSCRo

... The journalists used these detections to plan their reporting trips, where to go and who to talk to, how to keep themselves safe. They depended on the veracity of our work."

Ed writes so well on our work. Worth a read. "A lot of machine learning for remote sensing can feel like an academic exercise ... This is fine when the goal is to push boundaries in algorithm development. It’s not great when someone is trying to work closely with the data...
Working with journalists keeps our tech sharply focused on creating useful knowledge. In this post, Ed Boyda reflects on our collaboration with @mongabay and how AI assisted Earth analysis fits so well into investigative reporting.
