#sqlhelp When using #Azure AD authentication + PIM with SSMS, it is boring to restart it to refresh permissions and get access to menus granted by the escalated privilege. Any tips for that ? cc @erinstellato.

Interesting stuff and discussion today . provisioning an #azure SQL DB with #IaC is easy but protecting against deletion is not (regarding the context) if you want to stay "agile" :).

Finally, we got an answer from Microsoft that database copy to Az Sql behind PE work with AAD authentication and not SQL one.

#sqlhelp I'm using CREATE DATABASE COPY AS OF with SQL Azure DBs behind private endpoints and according to my tests it works well. I didn't enable public access. The BOL ( seems to indicate the opposite. Any thoughts, feedback on this topic ?.

Moving to the cloud has some advantages and gives priority to old requests and fix some tech debts that would cost in the cloud ^^.

#sqlhelp Does anyone knows how to get cause of warning with Azure Data Migration service ? I didn't find out any evidence of information so far . The data transfer is ok but I get a warning warning status at the end .

#Azure SQL IaaS vs PaaS makes really sense when it comes IaC . Not the same effort for provisioning services. Expected but deserves to be reminded.

Hey . someone knows the difference between psping from sysinternals (cc @markrussinovich) and latte (recommended by @Microsoft in BOL) for testing network latency between #Azure VMs?.

My daily task: Implementing a workgroup AG on #azure SQL VM + LB + AAD authentication . Funny but need to gather different documents to figure out the underlying setup . .

After going through #terragrunt for deploying #azure sqldb and #sqlmi , let’s starting digging to #github actions and reusable workflows for executing #sql statements in automated pipelines.

#sqlhelp does anyone know if it is possible to enable "Failover rights" for SQLMI with CLI or Terraform ? If I'm correct only BasedPrice or LicenseIncluded values are available for LicenseType currently

Lesson learned with #azure SQL DB migration: if you plan to use CNAME as you did with on-prem #sqlserver . sleep on it . things are more complex than you expect ✍️🧐.

After some investigations, probably not as easy as expected . password hash is not "transferable" from SQL Server to Azure SQL DB (not supported) :-(.

Ok the BOL gives clue. Once the DB is restored, a new protector is used. So the cert used for restoring DB becomes useless . .

Not sure this is the right solution for importing encrypted db backups. I only see pointers to import TDE-enabled databases. I can just confirm I'm able to restore my encrypted backups after importing my certificate this way.

#sqlhelp I'm using the Add-AzSqlManagedInstanceTransparentDataEncryptionCertificate cmdlet to import certificate in SQLMI (+ system managed KV) and to restore encrypted backups (no TDE). Certs are stored in KV but Get-AzSqlServerKeyVaultKey doesn't show my cert ? Any idea ?

Lesson learned: #gcp bigquery is awesome . Yeah I agree . processing 66TB in <~ 3min 😎 . but just bear in mind you will have to pay for it (a lot πŸ˜… depending on your query type) . A powerful but dangerous tool if used with no awareness . .
