Tomorrow, I’m taking the stage at the Master Electricians conference in Queenstown🔌⚡@ME_NZofficial I’ll be sharing why electricians are key to NZ’s energy future and how we can all play a part in the transition.

Solar is an economic slam dunk for farmers ⚡ Most Kiwis pay 30c/kWh from the grid, rooftop solar is ~13c, and farms with ground-mount solar can get as low as 7c/kWh. Cheap power with big benefits.

We can double NZ’s electricity without building a single new power station🌏 Rooftop solar on 80% of homes adds 40% renewable generation. Half of our farmers doing the same adds 30% 🌱 And then the big commercial rooftops could outproduce our largest solar farm 🏢

If we electrify homes and add solar and batteries, NZ households could save $29 million everyday 💰 That’s not government money, that’s money that stays in our wallets. By 2040, that’s nearly $100 billion in savings, the same as 139 Christchurch rugby stadiums worth 🏟️

We use only 38% of our poles and wires capacity, but the problem is that we all want to use power at once. That's when batteries step in. Batteries take homes off the grid at peak times, and one farm battery like mine can power 25 homes during those periods 🔋
