We believe that education and dialogue are essential tools in the fight against polarization. But for those tools to be effective, they need the right space. X increasingly works against—not with—the kind of reflection, nuance, and public trust that MM stands for. (6/7)

We are especially concerned about the growing role X plays in political influence and the normalization of hate speech, including rhetoric that directly endangers the lives and wellbeing of migrants and refugees. (5/7)

The platform’s shift under its new ownership has deprioritized policies against misinformation, enabled the spread of extremist content, and amplified antidemocratic, far-right positions. (4/7)

While we will not delete our account—so that past content and connections remain visible—we will no longer be active on the platform. This decision is rooted in our values. X is no longer a place that supports meaningful, democratic dialogue. (3/7)

Social media has played a key role in that mission: allowing us to connect with diverse audiences, amplify expert voices, and challenge polarizing narratives. After careful reflection, we’ve decided to step away from X (formerly known as Twitter). (2/7)

In Episode 7 of the #VoicesOnTheMove podcast, we hear from migration experts and women on the frontlines about how climate change deepens gender inequality: forcing women to walk farther for water, take on more responsibilities, and face greater risks. https://t.co/wTnctrIbO0

Climate change isn’t just about the environment, it’s about people. Across Kenya and Nigeria, shifting weather patterns, droughts, and floods are upending lives. But women are bearing the greatest burden. 🧵⬇️

🌱 Indigenous communities share a deep connection with their land; one tied to history, identity, and survival. But climate change is altering everything. And there are no frameworks to protect what’s being lost.

Indigenous communities are often left out of the climate change conversation. Why? 🌎 Because of a clear rural-urban divide. When disasters strike, urban areas get the most response while indigenous & rural communities (already more vulnerable) bear the brunt.

"Human mobility should be a cornerstone of development policy," says Dr. Ricardo Safra de Campos. Policies should recognize that migration is part of life; neither 'good' nor 'bad.' It’s about adapting and supporting livelihoods across multiple places.

But migration isn’t the only solution. By focusing only on climate, governments miss the bigger picture, struggling to create policies that truly help migrants improve their livelihoods. 💡 Improved local systems can help communities adapt without needing to leave their homes.

Migration isn’t always about survival—it’s also about opportunity. For example: unpredictable flooding pushed Lamin to leave Ghana, where he gained skills & financial support. He returned home to start a livestock business.
