The orbiter is actually going 17,500 mph at 292 miles up as it enters orbit. probably circled the earth by the time we were back on the bus.

Amazing! Like looking at the sun. Took about 20 seconds and the shuttle was out of sight.

The shuttle has 500,000 gallons of liquid fuel at liftoff and will end up going over 5000 mph. I'm in nerd heaven.
