Historically, the Astros have always emphasized the 2nd half of a season. Usually they will leave major moves for the deadline and try to build out what they have to start a season. If they have a major need now, like starting pitching this year, they will make a low key move
@michaelschwab13 I am so confused what the Astros are doing can you tell me what they plan to do with what little money they have? Also what players specifically do you see them targeting? What prospects and players do you see them floating around in trade talks? What is confusing to me is that

The Astros, who were at 40 players on their 40-man roster, have outrighted Taylor Trammell and Logan VanWey to Sugar Land. Trammell can become a free agent. There are now two open rosters spots on the 40-man

Late in the 2023 international signing period, Anderson Brito signed for $10,000. Now, he’s averaging 96 mph, climbing prospect ranks and making up for any lack of attention prior to turning pro. Why you should keep an eye out for him in 2026 👀 https://t.co/0fkivh2cwg

I really don't see the Astros signing a top free agent, especially tied to a qualifying offer. To me it's going to be a trade

In 2025, the Astros had 15 starting pitchers. Of those 15, only 2 threw more than 100 innings In 2022, only 8 pitchers started a game for the Astros with 5 throwing more than 100 IP, Framber at 200 Injuries matter. Talent definitely matters. They need another starting pitcher

I love the idea of Mitch Keller. I was told that the Astros had been in discussion with the Pirates in January about Keller but in never came to fruition.
@michaelschwab13 If we’re talking trade, and not FA, I like Mitch Keller

It just seems that a trade for a starting pitcher seems more likely than signing any free agent. Winter Meetings will start big conversations between the Astros and other teams on this topic. Who is a realistic trade Houston could go get at SP?
