I heard Tim Keller
@timkellernyc
preach for the first time in NYC back in the mid 1990's. That was a life-shaping moment for me as I saw what a minister can and ought to be. That moment is the basis for my tribute to him:
As a past president of
@etsjets
, I am so pleased that Karen Jobes will be the next president. She is both an excellent scholar and a wonderful human being.
What should we make of the new papyrus discovered (P.Oxy. 5575) that has a mix of material from Matthew and Luke as well as from the Gospel of Thomas? Here's my latest
@TGC
article:
In my tribute to
@timkellernyc
I celebrate the five words that describe his ministry: genuine, strategic, persuasive, orthodox, and winsome. He will be missed:
Breaking: Frank Reich has agreed to a five-year deal to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. (first reported by NFL Network, confirmed by
@MikeWellsNFL

Behold the Christmas tree in the
@RTSCharlotte
library, made of Greek and Latin volumes from the Harvard Loeb series. Only seminary students could dream this up!
#ASeminaryChristmas
Look what just came in the mail! So excited to see how this book with
@crossway
can help college students, and really anyone, who has tough questions about the Christian faith. Formally releases April 6th!
I couldn't be more proud of my daughter Emma who is a student at my alma mater
@UNC
Chapel Hill. Here's her
@TGC
article about being a Christian at secular university:
As a NT scholar who has devoted his career to issues related to the biblical text and canon, why did I write a book on the topic of spiritual abuse? Here's my answer:
It's Here! My book "Christianity at the Crossroads: How the Second Century Shaped the Future of the Church" (
@ivpacademic
) is now available in the USA:
"You might imagine, however, from the doctrine of certain teachers that the gospel is 'Whoever doubts shall be saved' and that nothing could be more useful or honorable than for a man's mind to hang in perpetual suspense, sure of nothing." C.H. Spurgeon
I'm reading thru 1st century philosopher Seneca and found this gem of a quote about owning too many books. Seminary students, profs, pastors, take note!
"They had collected the books not for the sake of learning but to make a show"
(De tranquillitate animi 9.4-5) Full quote:
Our public discourse is full of religious zeal, but it’s spiritually impoverished. People need grace but receive condemnation. Genuine Friendship is replaced by factions. And too many of us withhold empathy so we can be sure that you receive our judgment.
It's a little known fact that in one of Paul's lost letters he mentions "not liking meetings" as part of the qualifications for ministers. I will be advocating that we make that letter the 28th book of the canon...
We travelled to remote Papua to see the great gospel work being done among the tribes there; special thanks to
@maf_us
for flying us safely to the interior!
"If an Evangelical critiques Christians—even a theologically orthodox Evangelical who has been part of American Christian culture his or her entire life—then that’s betrayal. And traitors are the ultimate outsiders."
@DavidAFrench
The bond with a corrupt leader often begins with something good—a good education, a message that changed your life, an unforgettable summer at camp—but the good thing can warp into too much trust, tribalism, and ultimately angry willful blindness:
A summary of our incredible Indonesia trip:

14 days
13 time zones
11 towns/cities
10 lectures/sermons
4 Komodo dragons
3 grass/water landings
1 amazing God
Some leaders have a ministry that "sees" people and looks for ways to encourage and build up. Other leaders have a ministry that "watches" people for any misstep or mistake. They are two very different visions for ministry:
Amazon is having a sale on my recent book, "Bully Pulpit: Confronting the Problem of Spiritual Abuse in the Church" (Zondervan, 2022). It is $17.71 for the hardback (32% off cover price), which is one of the best I've seen in a while:
If you are undecided about attending the
@G3Conference
this year, please note that I will be joining
@michaeljkruger
to do a special discussion on canon issues as part of the G3 Conference schedule. Cannot wait for this vitally important presentation!
How do we know that the right books made it into the New Testament? Today, watch as
@MichaelJKruger
unpacks three arguments made by modern critics who seek to undermine our confidence in God’s Word.
"Intellectual rigor begins with intellectual humility. It’s understanding where we are experts, and where we are not. Perhaps the first step to really knowing something is knowing what you don’t know. "
The RTS family is deeply saddened to inform you that Kevin Collins was in a fatal car accident this morning in Knoxville, TN. Kevin was a good friend and colleague. He will be dearly missed.
As details regarding funeral arrangements, etc. become clear, we will communicate them.
So pleased to see that my
@ZReflective
@Zondervan
book "Bully Pulpit" has won the Christianity Today
@CTmagazine
Book of the Year for the church/pastoral leadership category.
When's the last time you talked to a skeptic who questioned the *humanity* of Jesus? Believe it or not, that was an issue in the early church. Here's my latest
@TGC
article on why Jesus' humanity matters as much as his divinity:
It was such a delight to be with
@jasonkeithallen
and the team at
@MBTS
this past week. So thankful for that faithful, theologically deep, and Christ-centered seminary.
We enjoyed having
@michaeljkruger
on the campus of
@MBTS
and
@SpurgeonColl
this week delivering our Sizemore Lectures. We had an enjoyable conversation which you can view here:
I was pleased to endorse this great volume by my friend and fellow

author,
@DrTomSchreiner
. One of the very best treatments of Paul's thought available today.
Cover of
@AndyStanley
