Freshet: "..some form of membership where the community has a stake in what we publish" Cool. Integrate readers as writers of research-based articles, maybe for a modest editing/publishing fee. Op-eds from public figures, experts. Also, opinion letters kept me going to the NOW.

Oct 14, 2025, #Burnaby Council stayed silent on the demolition of 4330 Maywood. Not one self-proclaimed social justice councillor spoke about how to prevent conditions where people live and die in makeshift shelters amid asbestos-contaminated drywall, needles, and feces.
8/ Oct 14, 2025, Sent comments to Mayor and Council for today's council meeting, reminding them that 4330 Maywood St. isn’t an isolated case but the consequence of a deeper, systemic issue: the premature vacancy of rental buildings and units.

The City of #Burnaby estimates demolition costs at $2,295,000. None of this would be needed if it had a real maintenance bylaw for rental buildings, stop issuing demolition permits like blank cheques, and require developers to keep rentals occupied until projects are truly ready.

At least the Fire Chief took me seriously. My first letter about 4330 Maywood (Sept 17, 2024) was swept under the “closed council” carpet. Ten months later, they tried the same. I retracted the letter & instead asked Bylaw Services for an inspection; and the ball started rolling.
7/ Oct 14, 2024, #Burnaby Fire Chief urges Council to order the demolition of 4330 Maywood (now 6677 Silver) and recover costs from the owner. The report reinforces my communications to council: 32 complaints, incl. 4 fires over past 2 years. https://t.co/4G9NVSCLeQ
