You reaching more than 10K followers apparently saves Twitter a bunch of API calls. They don’t fetch active followers count every time but only when the first 3 digits change. Kafka subscribers get the updated count pushed. Everyone else gets it via API. Neat.

Isn't the only reason @thedicedb performs better than Redis because it's effectively making use of modern hardware? If you restrict it to a single-core server (like a t1 or t2.micro), wouldn't its performance be almost the same as Redis?. Amazing engineering tho🎉.
