We may not be able to change the world at once, but we can try to by increasing hopes of a favorable outcome - one person at a time. I don't know how much longer we can push the mission at @edustipend, but for as long as we can and God helps us, we'll continue to push. The end!.

This is partly why I do what I do with @edustipend. I know firsthand the potentially life-altering impact one opportunity can bring. And while many may say they don't owe the Nigerian government anything (and they may be right), I owe it to God to pass on that hope I received.

I have since gotten my US residency, traveled the world over, grown my net worth, built amazing relationships, worked with top companies around the world, and spoken in rooms I would never have imagined. All because of the gift of a man, because someone took a chance on me.

In hindsight, $1000 may not seem like a lot of money, but it was everything at the time. Because of that money and everything he and other people did, the fire of my dream didn’t have to die. I had renewed hope to chase my dreams and keep going right to the finish.

But I’ll never forget how God used one of my professors to help me. That was the first time someone who didn’t know me from anywhere gave me money that I didn’t work for. I remember walking away from his office to cry in the bathroom. He didn’t have to, but he did. It was $1000.

I felt there was a lesson in this experience that God wanted me to learn, and that was gonna shape me in some way. So this was the first time I came to terms with the reality many students deal with today. It was really a tough time.

Prior to now, I had NEVER known what it was to struggle through school. I was always topping the class and my fees paid promptly, thanks to my parents. 𝘗𝘚: 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥.

I depleted my savings in a bid to pay my fees & sustain myself and those dependent on me. At some point, it was no longer bearable. There was a semester I wanted to give up & considered dropping out because my fees weren’t paid. Sadly, the whole thing started to impact my grades.

But as you might expect, there were some challenges, actually many challenges. Most notably, the Nigerian government failed to make good their commitment as stipulated by the terms of the scholarship to cover fees and living expenses in a timely manner. It was really bad.

The PRESSID scholarship, by the Goodluck administration, was to get first-class Nigerian graduates to study in the top 25 universities in the world. I was opportuned to be among the 100+ selected for the scholarship. I had one dream at the time - to live & work in Silicon Valley.

Today makes it exactly 10 years since I got my visa for a Software Engrg masters program at Carnegie Mellon University in Silicon Valley, USA, on a "fully-funded" scholarship for first class students by the Nigerian government. I've never publicly shared this story - a🧵.
