Now that I’ve signed the contract, I’m super excited that over the next three years, I’ll be writing my book ‘Jews and Christians in Medieval English Towns’ with Palgrave! Not the book of the thesis but a project that’s been with me just as long. Let’s do it!

So excited about the growing range of medieval Anglo-Jewish walking tours including Lincoln (Irwin/Jenman), London (Community/Irwin), Canterbury (Irwin), and Winchester (Welch et. al.). Potentials for the list in 2026 include Bristol, Northampton, and Cambridge. Watch this space!

As well as the presentations, those registered for 'Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers' are invited to a new walking tour which explores medieval Oxford and the Jewry. Designed by Natasha Jenman and Naomi Reiter, it peels back the layers of Oxford's perceived importance,... 1/3

And we're done! We learned so much in the process of shortlisting but our programme can only accommodate so many people so was incredibly difficult. Registration is now open with a limited number of virtual tickets available:

And that's a wrap! The deadline has now passed for submitting proposals for 'Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers' has now passed. Over the past 3 months, we've had 156 proposals from 38 countries (mapped here) It may take us some time to shortlist these... Talk amongst yourselves!

At the request of the community, I reviewed the application for the London medieval Jewish cemetery permanent memorial @cityoflondon. It's of minimal historical value, so I objected. I encourage others to do the same: @citylordmayor @JHSEngland @MayorofLondon @JewishStudiesUK

We are delighted to announce our first Keynote Speaker for Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers. Prof. Pinchas Roth will explore how medieval English Jews were connected to, and influenced by, their continental co-religionists, and the implications of England being an Island.

Looking forward to returning to Leicester next week to talk about the Medieval Jewish Communities of the East Midlands. Being geographically challenged, I wasn't quite sure what constituted 'the East Midlands' but, as it turns out, this is historic diocese of Lincoln! Phew!
