Last month, after a lot of thought, I made the decision to join @alphacolin & the amazing team at @CustomerIO. After two decades of being a founder, this choice surprised me, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to do my best work here. It's a new Day 1, AMA.

The key to being present with your growing kids is reminding yourself of this fact: That life wonβt warn you that this will be the last time you ever do this particular thing with them.

Underrated life advice: Start asking "what did you mean by that?" instead of getting defensive when someone says something that rubs you the wrong way. 90% of conflict isn't driven by malice, it's driven by miscommunication. Most arguments aren't personal; they're preventable.

I got put on a drip campaign by someone interested in an open position. Sent me short, pesky emails every 1-3 days, treating me like a cold lead for their SaaS. PSA: Don't do this.

As a dad of 4 that was also a founder, I had to decide that my kids + startup were the entirety of my social life, hobbies, and identity for more than a decade. Friends? Other soccer parents. Hobbies? Bike rides and kites. Travel? Road trips. Games? Play time. Let go.
I donβt mean to sound like the selfish Millennial here, but how in the world do yβall work from 8-6, then go home and immediately jump into parent mode for the rest of the night

Of course, we should finish the exercise by asking what our personal Chernobyl event would look like. What belief of ours predicates our fiercest loyalties? To spare us from the pain of discovery, our brains will actively blind us to evidence of this. Curiosity is vigilance.

If you're frustrated by an enemy tribe, try to imagine what their Chernobyl event will be. That's what will reset them. Chernobyl event = existential threat that can't be reconciled with the lie we've all agreed to believe.

Rarely does believing a lie affect our immediate safety. Notable exceptions like Chernobyl are how tribes get reset.

The more information becomes available, the more obvious it becomes that humans aren't truth-seeking by nature. They are tribe-seeking, facts be damned.
