1/🧵 There's been so much hype, naysaying and doomerism about AI that I wanted to do two episodes about it on "Theory of Change.". The first, w/ Venkatesh Rao, centers on his idea of "mediocrity" and how it applies to natural, AI, and economic processes

Trumpers cannot debate. They lose every time because their ideas are bad and their leader loves Jeffrey Epstein. Democrats letting them off the hook was a big mistake.

The importance of American Jews speaking out against Netanyahu's genocide cannot be overstated. This is an incredible open letter that @AaronRegunberg wrote to his mother who refuses to see what is happening to the people of Gaza:

Right wing comedians are regretting moving to Texas. Totally understandable!. Republican cultural elites have always preferred living in blue cities. Buckley lived in NYC his whole adulthood. Fox will never leave NYC. Breitbart was SoCal boy.

Reactionary American Christians think that forcing their faith into public spaces will make people more religious. In fact, evidence shows the exact opposite appears to be the case. Keeping religion out of government protects citizens and protects faith.

In fact, the screenshot is an inaccurate news headline that the former Obama administration had nothing whatsoever to do with. The story says nothing about "vote hacking" and quotes no one from the administration making the accusation you are inferring. Stop being dishonest.

5/ You don't have to like AI to understand that it will not be going anywhere. It's not a giant scam but it's not a panacea either. Policymakers and activists must get involved in the public interest. /end. Please share to spread the word! Thanks!.

4/ Rao also reframes AI as a mirror for humanity: it reveals our own mediocrity, creativity, and biases. Like any technology, AI is what you make of it. But chatbots are even more so.

2/ As useful as AI can be for individuals and organizations, however, there are very real harms that it or its users can cause. Dave Karpf and I discuss how tools aren't the problem, it is how they are used. The politics matter.
