It seems to be the new trend amongst biographers - to veer away from the affectionate idolatry of the Durrells in tv series and focus on 'the dark side' of the family eg in Louisa's alcoholism. Richard Bradford did it this year in 'The Durrells'

Another new book on the famous family. Wee bit trepidation about what I am about to read. Professor Bradford of Ulster University doesn't sound like a fan boy writing of the "eccentric disfunctional truth" behind the Durrell facade. He claims "the true story."
