Mr Riordan will take on a new role as the government’s “envoy for the Northern Growth Corridor”, jointly appointed by the Chancellor, communities secretary, and transport secretary. He was previously Leeds council CEO for 14 years.

The transport manager, Pratik Patel, was also charged and would have been the "first defendant" in the case. However, he died by suicide earlier this year - the day after he was due at a magistrates court hearing.

However, Tudor Dumitru, the director of SSC Secure Transport, effectively "handed himself in" to @NHSCFA and "brought the proceedings on himself". Without him doing so, the offending "may never have come to light"

Unusual case this. Director of a patient transport firm pleads guilty to bribing an NHS transport manager for "advice and assistance" in securing contracts. These took the form of "cuts" of 20%, or invoicing the hospital for 'non-jobs,' court hears.

A survey by @RCPhysicians of 550 doctors has found: - 39% were unaware of any measures being taken by their trusts to prepare for winter - 43% were not confident in their current plans Sounds.... alarming, ahead of winter. https://t.co/Sf4rOWcDle

NHS England put the price of a typical night's stay at £562, with 390,960 people staying longer than doctors considered necessary in September alone.

A third of the £219m cost of delayed discharges was due to lack of out of hospital capacity (£68m). But more than a £100m of the lost 'bed day' costs was due to delays in hospitals' 'internal processes,' or trusts/ ICBs spending too long negotatiating onward care packages
