Please keep your local school administrators in your thoughts over the coming weeks as they will be challenged with providing leadership, and likely to be put in no-win situations, as they make decisions that are in the best interest of their students. ❤️ These people!

MASSP is saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Haslett High School Principal and long time MASSP member Bart Wegenke. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and the staff, students & community of Haslett.

MASSP supports Michigan’s efforts to lead a multi-state court action against Sec of Ed Betsy DeVos’s recent rule that reroutes fed relief $ from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act to private schools & limits the use of these funds for public schools.
MASSP is pleased to announce that Michael Kapola the Principal

Incredibly disappointing that the legislature is refusing to meet. They could have addressed the school concerns last session & chose not to. School aid bill in limbo as Michigan Legislature cancels session amid coronavirus crisis
We're thrilled to announce Tony Koski, Principal of Northville High School, as Michigan’s 2023 Principal of the Year. Thank you for your dedication and passion for your profession, community and students.

Running one f2f schedule typically takes 2-3 months and then there are still schedule changes and adjustments during the first week of school...running 3 options with multiple contingencies is unbelievably difficult. Props to all schedulers.
Hearing from many principals today about how the masking issue is becoming very decisive and downright nasty. After two very challenging school years this is not what kids or educators need as they start school.
While visiting Northville HS I chatted with two of their HS counselors on my way out…two counselors each day take turns being available for students during the lunch hours at mobile workstations. Great idea! The counselors said it was “time well spent”.

for being elected President-Elect of the MASSP Board of Directors! We look forward to working with you in the coming years and can't wait to see what you bring to the association.
House session is underway...and they are starting by taking attendance. Strangely appropriate given the bills being debated today. I wonder if

is going to have to meticulously log two-way interactions between members in order to count today's session?

MASSP extends our most sincere condolences to the family of Steve Hawley and the Lake Orion School Community. Steve served on the MASSP Board of Directors and was an exemplary principal and an even better man. He will be missed.
@LkOrionHS
Pro tip: Instead of thinking about learning at each phase...Plan to have teachers & students using an LMS regardless of how or where instruction is being delivered. The teaching/learning aspect should be seamless...fully virtual, blended or face to face.
Congrats Steve Hawley, Principal of

After speaking to Principals around the state today I heard many explain they spend much of their day contact tracing & are challenged when people are not truthful about contact. If your child comes in contact with a person who is C-positive keep them home.
We are excited to announce

Great insights from our student panels today, common themes: Kids prefer in person instruction, they want consistent assignment set up w/in a platform, they need structured deadlines, they value choice/engagement & they want lessons to be recorded.
👏 Congratulations to the amazing Assistant Principals who were nominated and selected as finalists for the MASSP AP of the Year award! We can't wait to announce the winner this fall. Please join us in celebrating this incredible achievement! 🎉 [Winner Announcement Coming Soon]

MASSP is here to support our colleagues at Oxford High School and the entire Michigan school community as we collectively grieve this tragic loss of life:
If we advocate there should not be a high stakes state assessment then shouldn’t we also recognize final exams are not the right measure of student success this year? What alternatives assessments are your teachers using?
Since our announcement yesterday, I’ve watched educators and administrators rally together with positivity and enthusiasm to plan out how we will ensure our kids continue their education.
