I notice that @Keir_Starmer said today that only three Labour leaders - Attlee, Wilson and Blair - had taken the party from opposition to government. As usual, Ramsay MacDonald has been written out of the Labour story.

Undeniably true. The media will drive this issue bigtime. Pressure from and on Labour to scrap the ULEZ scheme will now be fierce. Perhaps also even to replace Sadiq Khan as mayoral candidate. London Labour MPs with small notional majorities in the new seats will be worried too.

The “narrow path” to story victory in the next general election now runs though the London mayoral elections next year. If they can make the contest a referendum on ULEZ expansion, then they have a chance of looking good in the locals next May.
