Here’s another interesting fact about
@GiccVb
longtime coach Sharon Zavala. She has won a state title in five different decades. 80s (81, 87, 88), 90s (92, 93, 94), 2000s (05, 07), 2010s (10, 19) and 2020 (22). Add to that note, her first team went to state in 1979.
Northwest coach Diane Rouzee made the announcement to her players Sunday that she is retiring from coaching volleyball. She finished with a 768-183, which includes three state championships during her coaching career for the Vikings.
Congrats to Grand Island resident Tim Higgins for getting inducted as an official into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame, along with former Grand Island athlete and Nebraska football player Kurt Mann.
I’d say
@AvynUrbanski
gave it her all in the Class B 200. She finishes second in both the 100 and 200 while having the 400 relay to a third place finish.

Well we made it through another high school sports season. This one was by far the most interesting with so many unknowns when it got underway in August. Kudos to the athletes and coaches as well as the
@nsaahome
for doing the necessary things to make sure it happened.
Aurora’s Caden Carlson signed a letter of intent to compete in Track and Field at Wichita State. He’s the second Aurora athlete to sign to a D1 school. Gage Griffith signed a few weeks ago as he signed with Wyoming.

I will be covering cross country tomorrow at the Northwest Invite, which will be renamed the Vince Zavala Invite, named after the former longtime Viking coach.

The only team I can think of that hasn't lost a set during a season was Columbus Scotus in both 2002 and 2003 when it was before rally scoring. St. Paul is now 30-0 and has not drop a set during the rally scoring era this season.

Yes, JO💰I suppose it’s okay you missed practice tonight.
After all, how often do you get to sing the National Anthem before a

baseball game?
Well done, Jeremy!

The Northwest girls 400 relay of Kyra Ray, Avyn Urbanski, Grace Baasch and Samantha Roby win the race at 48.59. That's fast and is now the top overall time in the All-time All-area leaders. They surpassed the 2014 NW squad that ran 49.11.

Thoughts and prayers go out to
@mlarson03
and hope she can make a full recovery as she prepares for college. You were sure a fun player to watch, especially in last year's epic C-1 final.

While disappointed there isn't a track season, it's even more disappointing that there isn't going to be a Central Nebraska Track and Field Championship meet at Northwest High School this Monday.
Looks like the Burwell mat is going to be in the Class D portion. A few Longhorns will likely get a chance to wrestle on that mat, which has coach Max’s name on it, during the state tournament.
@NEBwrestle
@Huskermat
Keep an eye out for the Aurora girls in Class B. The Huskies won 7 events at the Concordia Indoor Meet.
@kylacarlson2020

Going to be an outstanding day for the athletes competing in the Grand Island Independent Central Nebraska Track and Field Championships at Northwest High School. Should see a lot of athletes set personal bests. Good luck to all competing today.
It is not every day that you know someone in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” (December 18th edition)...Congrats GICC Head Volleyball Coach Sharon Zavala...A great representative for Nebraska high school coaches!!
Looking around the CHI Center Omaha and seeing all the people watching the state wrestling finals for A and D is amazing to see. Might not of thought this was possible at the beginning of last fall.
State tournament fact:
@GiccVb
coach Sharon Zavala has taken the Crusaders to state 31 times during her coaching career. I believe that is the most state tournament appearances of any active coach in Nebraska volleyball history.
