I love quotations. Maybe someday I will have a quote of my own. Until then, this is what I believe. @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound

I enjoy showing the creativity of #MicrobialEnthusiasts with #LuxArt. Here are four from my #Bio350 #Micronauts. I will soon have a video. And hopefully, I can get invitations to put on #LuxArt sessions next semester and beyond! @asmicrobiology @univpugetsound @profvrr

Have you ever noticed that people with the dirtiest hands seem to shout the loudest about other people needing to have clean hands? It’s everywhere? I want to return to my own planet.

I am recruiting graduate students for Fall 2026! The Microbial Ecosystems Lab https://t.co/3kMbBq22oB at ASU studies microbial interactions, spatial ecology, and imaging-driven microbiome science. If you love microbes, microfluidics, or single-cell analysis, let’s talk!

I simply love this piece of art depicting the life cycle of my old friend Bdellovibrio. The former student who made it (for a famous microbiologist I know) was going to make me one...but time and life got in the way. It's beautiful.

I'm not a paragon of anything, but I try to be better than my nature. As always, students have been wonderful throughout. 2/2

Yes, this is the equivalent of subtweeting. If you have treated people poorly for years, and never apologized or made it right, please don't try to act differently so that you feel better about yourself. It's just better to be a decent person. Hypocrisy makes me irritable. 1/2

When I was a boy in Southern California, there was so much light pollution I could hardly see the stars. But even the cheap telescope we could afford could show me how the moons of Jupiter changed their position night after night. Such a lovely memory

The chemistry department at my institution is doing a get together to silver electroplate items. I thought it would be awesome to silver plate a PLA 3D printed tardigrade. But they aren't doing it that way. So I am looking for ways to accomplish this. #SilverTardiDoc

In the early 60s, someone in Las Vegas asked Dean Martin why Frank Sinatra did what he did. "It's Frank's world; we just live in it," replied Dean Martin. So it's a microbial world; we just live in it. Artwork commissioned from Kaitlin Reiss. @univpugetsound @ASMicrobiology

Remembering when Dr. Kim Dill-McFarland was a #Micronaut and #DocMartian in my classes and little lab at the @university. She made this for me at the time, which I posted outside the lab door. #happymemories #LuckyProf. @ASMicrobiology @profvrr

There is simply nothing better than chatting with my F1-A and F1-B today by phone and email. I never thought I would have children. Jennifer Quinn made that possible. I love you all, Jenny, Anson, and Zach. I am so proud of and thankful for all of you.

For my #Bio350 #Microbiology lecture before Thanksgiving, I played a great video by Rachel Dutton and Ben Wolfe about cheese and microbiology. I promoted the two podcasts I did with each. Will any of them watch or listen? I hope so. @ASMicrobiology @univpugetsound

Oversharing, but I’m pretty isolated. This isn't the kind of dog I would prefer, but I do my best to get past it. Some days are better than others. My posts are like a message in a bottle. Thanks for being there.
