Nigeria’s response to the wave of coups across West Africa has largely been limited to diplomatic condemnations, and in the case of Niger threats of intervention. However, Sunday’s attempted military coup to overthrow President Patrice Talon of Benin appears to have been the

This is the golden opportunity for Nigeria. Soldiers should be marching in on Monday. Once Benin is under Nigeria admin, regional integration will be easy.

Lagos is the best it has ever been right now - in terms of infrastructure and general management. It is not world class, but I do not ever recall a past time where Lagos was better than today.

There are kids who will grow up being part of the Borg. AI will have moulded them so much that they will all have similar personalities and ways of speaking. Older people will be angry at them, trying to make them more individual. They will mock the olds, happy at how they are.

Indian and coastal west Africa are similar in being very conducive for human life. But India's population grew fast, while west Africa historically was of low population. India then understood the concept of scarcity, while this concept is not really existent in West Africa.

Without making it about me, but I continue to have a good eye for talent in Nigeria, as I was the one who spotted him as a facility manager and recommended he move up to VP.

Our principal just defended his PhD and is now a Doctor. Dr. Emmanuel started off in the school bakery. From there he moved to Facility management, where he was maintaining the school and fueling the generators. He became VP facility, and after some time, was appointed principal.
My Dad made me chairman of the board in his school as he retired. I looked into the finances - boarding house was making a loss, day school was fine but teacher grossly underpaid. I increased teachers pay, increased school fees a bit, increased boarding fees quite a bit. This

We continue to build a train. The point of school is to experiment and learn new things.
In the school I am director, our new project is to develop a train. We want to build train tracks around the school, and ultimately end up with a powered train. I like the project because we can sustain it over years, and keep learning more and more about engineering.

People that yearn to be gangsters are more dangerous than actual gangsters, because they will do irrational things because it "feels gangsterish".

If you have a business where the primary cost lies in the procurement, not the running cost or maintainance cost (e.g some medical machines or graphic cards), then it is in your best interest to keep it running all the time via variable charges. Drop price when demand is low.

The racism that black men face abroad is quite different from the racism that black women face.

Watched, Tracked, and Targeted Life in Gaza under Israel’s all-encompassing surveillance regime

Life under Israel’s all-encompassing surveillance regime.
I spent sixteen months reporting this story. It was deep, painful, and at times unbearable. It follows how surveillance tech is rewriting Gaza in real time — and what it’s doing to the people inside it. Read in @NYMag

Yemen should just split. The small gulf countries are doing well. Two or three Yemens will likely do better than a single Yemen.

The problem with inherited wealth (which I am not against), is that the people who get the wealth are almost certainly going to be poor capital allocators. Those who make the wealth spend their lifetime learning to allocate capital properly. Those who inherit it don't.

Something is happening in Africa/Nigeria that concerns the U.S and it's kind of unclear what this is. I doubt that the U.S cares that much about Boko Haram. What is really going on? What are we missing?
The U.S. Air Force has unusually intensified flights to and from Ghana in the last month, mostly cargo flights leaving Djibouti, the de facto AFRICOM base in Africa, fully loaded, arriving in Ghana, then returning to Djibouti empty. This pattern suggests that heavy military

There are some people who are on constant high alert because of past trauma (where they felt continuously unsafe). Some of these people have "hunter" personality, and anytime they perceive "danger", they immediately attack.
