Just a note to say that @iamstephenwest's Philosophize This! is a national treasure
New episode of the podcast. #239 about the work of the philosopher Charles Taylor. First, we trace the historical origins of how he views the modern self. From the Greeks to the Reformation. From Descartes to Rousseau. Then we talk about our modern focus on authenticity as a

I appreciate thinking outside of the box here, but there are other ways (e.g. automatic runoffs) to solve for these problems!
@Burrows4TX ! Patrick says that if there are 3 or more people in a primary, "you should be able to win with 45% of the vote." "I think that’s one thing we should potentially look at," Patrick says, citing the "tremendous cost" of runoffs + "people get worn out" #txlege

I guess if you consider that Texas was originally Mexico, then Trump was right about who would pay for that wall, @ujohnnyg

Along with the money to build more border barriers, Senate Bill 6 would devote $49 million to beef up law enforcement of the Colony Ridge development that’s become a target of far-right media.

I know a fair handful of folks here in flyover country that feel pretty compelled
This is the least compelling World Series matchup in a long time, maybe ever. MLB made a lot of great and overdue changes this season but it's time to contract the playoffs and give the regular season more meaning.

It's striking how much specifically evangelical Christian language Andrew Murr and Jeff Leach are using in their closing arguments--and how much Leach sounds like a pastor, rather than a lawyer.

One of the most surprising aspects of the trial so far is that the phrase "there are no coincidences in Austin" is on its way to being a stock catchphrase in Texas politics, having been made up on the spot last week. Pretty sure @scottbraddock called this one first. #txlege

I was confused when the prosecutors in the Ken Paxton trial only used 10 of their 60 minutes. It seemed to play into Buzbee's story that they hadn't ever made their case. Now that they're using the remaining 50 to walk through each article, it makes a little more sense. #txlege

Looking back at the 16 active articles of impeachment, I'm curious about which ones might be affected by @DanPatrick's "non-divisibility" principle. Take a look, courtesy of @TexasTribune: https://t.co/HudSqzTGlB
texastribune.org
The articles — including bribery, dereliction of duty and disregard of official duty — do not include four accusations originally adopted by the Texas House.

🪣🪣🪣 More buckets! Ken Paxton's other defense attorney, Dan Cogdell, describes the charges as a "bucket of air" (or maybe buckets of hair?). 🪣🪣🪣

If Ken Paxton is convicted, attorney Tony Buzbee has some predictions: more impeachments, defamation lawsuits, exposing of affairs. I wonder whether some of that might come across to Senators as threats rather than predictions--and if so, how that will land.
