JUJUTSU KAISEN | ToC Ranking Evolution
JJK's ranking has it all. Off to a very worrisome start, it managed to pick up the slack and establish itself in the top half of the magazine for half of its lifetime. And in late 2020, you can see the big jump in ranks after the anime!

One Piece is, without a doubt, the most dominating series Weekly Shonen Jump has ever seen! In its debut year it ranked 3rd and after that monopolized the No. 1 yearly position (except for 2005) since 1998!!! (1/5)

CIPHER ACADEMY | ToC Ranking Evolution
Now this one took longer than expected to kick the bucket... Cipher Academy promised good with NISIOISIN paired with Yuji Iwasaki whose art style I like a lot. Despite that, it didn't take long for it to drop to the bottom of the magazine.

TENMAKU CINEMA v.s. KILL BLUE v.s. DO RETRY v.s. NUE'S EXORCIST | ToC Ranking Comparison
The 2nd batch of serializations is not looking too promising. Tenmaku Cinema is the biggest shocker since it is by the Soma duo and expectations were high. But it never got any momentum. 1/5

Fun fact: Last time a series without an anime was in the Top 3 was in 2018 with The Promised Neverland and Demon Slayer!! These ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

ONE PIECE v.s. SAKAMOTO DAYS v.s. JUJUTSU KAISEN | ToC Ranking Comparison
Better late than never! Here are the Top 3 series halfway through the year. The big shocker: Sakamoto Days! Not only did it replace MHA, it even beat JJK. The first series without anime to do so in years!!

KIMETSU NO YAIBA | ToC Ranking Evolution
Time for the most successful (and my favorite) manga of recent times! KnY's beginnings were nothing to marvel about but was never in serious trouble. Over time, its ranking began to rise consistently. And in 2020 it nearly beat One Piece!

NARUTO | ToC Ranking Evolution
The tale of Naruto Uzumaki, loved by so many, and one of the most successful ones in Jump's history. In spite of that, Naruto always was 2nd to One Piece in the yearly ToC averages. It was only in 2005 when it became the only series to beat OP!

TENMAKU CINEMA | ToC Ranking Evolution
Another victim of the axe, Tenmaku Cinema had everyone’s hopes up due to its unique concept and the experience of the Shokugeki no Soma duo. Unfortunately, Tenmaku Cinema never got the attention of readers and quickly fell in the rankings.

🚨BREAKING: KAGURABACHI has astonishingly dethroned ONE PIECE as the best performing series in Weekly Shonen Jump with an Avg. ToC Ranking of 1!!!
It has surpassed legendary manga like OP, Dragon Ball, and Naruto.
The pirate era is over. Kagurabachi is the new King of JUMP!

That’s not hate, that is valid criticism based on the actual performance of the BD sales. MAPPA lost a large portion of their audience given the realistic direction approach, which is different from what the majority of fans expected. The numbers reflect that. It’s not hate

From inconsistent ranks to now being well-established in the Top 3 best-ranking series in the magazine, the anime truly boosted its popularity! And it then kept the same consistency throughout, which is something worth pointing out.

The voting period lasted 2 weeks during February and the Google Forms excluded manga titles that already have an anime adaptation officially announced or have content animated.
Also, I didn’t notice and included Orb even though it already has an anime in production. Sorry!

MAMA YUYU | ToC Ranking Evolution
With a new serialization batch comes an axing round, and Mama Yuyu is the first to take the leave. Seems like that reprint it had for Vol. 1 was not enough to compensate for its poor reception ToC-wise. First series for Hayashi ends with an axe.

Although not reflected in the rankings, Gege Akutami's health has impacted the frequency to which the series receives covers and color pages. Truly a shame, I really enjoy Akutami's color work!

Gosh! Comics and Forbidden Planet in London were amazing!!! They truly lived up to the expectations.
Beautiful, varied, and HUGE stores with tons of manga, graphic novels, and comics. Must’ve spent 3 hours combined in both from walking around and fantasizing about owning it all

RUIRUI SENKI | ToC Ranking Evolution
Ah... This one hurts a bit. I had such high hopes for Kento Amemiya, but it just wasn't it. Ruirui Senki never amassed any momentum and quickly dipped to the bottom of the magazine. So I'm not surprised it got axed as quick as it did.

Part of it can be explained by Yuki Tabata's poor health, leading to constant breaks + chapters with less page count.
Another factor is Black Clover's fall in popularity. Losing readers left and right, both sales and ranking have been dropping at a fast and consistent pace. 3/5

And here it is! Phew! This took a fair bit amount of time and effort but I really enjoyed doing this. Glad it is finally out!!

Regardless of that, Black Clover was able to hold a good position during most of its run. It ranked in the Top 5 from 2016 to 2019 and then 2021, having its best year by ranking 4th in 2017 with an average ranking of 5.271! Can't ignore that! 5/5

Its ToC ranking has been freefalling with no end in sight. It is quite terrible in fact, ranking 13th in 2022 and even worse in 2023, ranking 19th by the half-year. Also, the frequency to which it receives color pages is less often, and it barely gets any covers nowadays. 2/5

It is. These come from the latest officially reported numbers. If we’re talking unofficial numbers, series like KnY would be around 200M or JJK around 100M. But to be 100% sure we’ll have to wait for an official update.

Black Clover and MHA being on the list shouldn’t come as a shock to anybody. I think we are all aware of their successful history in the magazine.

MASHLE | ToC Ranking Evolution
And so it comes to an end! Mashle had a proper run, with decent rankings in its first half but then dropped in its second half. Its ranks fluctuated greatly and constantly but it was definitively popular with the amount of color pages it received!

And the second series to kick the bucket is ToI... Its rankings are the second worst from this year and it still surprises me how it lasted this long. Seems like they're letting flops live a little longer. Really missing the quick axes now...

Black Clover's days of glory are long gone. Even after the new movie, seems like there has been no effect on its popularity at all. It is unlikely its ToC ranking situation will improve anytime soon... 4/5

Fabricant 100 | ToC Ranking Evolution
Fabricant 100 is yet another victim of the Golden Future Cup's curse. Getting serialized a year later after winning the competition in 2021, Fabricant 100's ranks have consistently decreased over time.

Can we talk about the MENACING and SEETHING look in Shigaraki ‘s eyes? You can actually feel his hate and anger towards the heroes just from his gaze alone. Absolutely nerve wracking

Another victim of the axe. This time, it only took 19 chapters for Do Retry. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody really, its ToC ranking performance is among the worst of this year.

MISSION: YOZAKURA FAMILY | ToC Ranking Evolution
The 4th longest-running series in the magazine right now, and it has never looked good for MYF. Off to a very poor start, Yozakura managed to survive despite terrible rankings and established itself in the bottom half of the mag.

Another series worth pointing out is Nue’s Exorcist, which was in the Top 10 before Ch. 20 released. It is now 14th with an Avg. ToC Rank of 9.300 behind Sakamoto Days. It is a strong start despite being out of the Top 10, especially after receiving 2 consecutive color pages!

The biggest surprise, Hinomaru Zumo, completely slipped under my radar! Not a series that resonates strongly in the West, so I will blame that for my ignorance! It certainly was a solid series during its runtime.

Bones is absolutely killing MHA… Arguably one of the most stale, flavorless, and mediocre adaptations there are. Horikoshi deserves so much more

One Piece also broke the record for the best yearly average ranking in the magazine twice. It first did in its second year of serialization in 1998, with 2.063. It came close on a few occasions in 1999, 2009, and 2021. And then in 2022, it broke the record with 2.029! (3/5)
