People often ask why I chose to study Paul. Many reasons, but here's one. Pauline studies needs more women scholars. Young women need to see women teaching and preaching Paul.

Elated to share that Dr. Jesse Grenz (@JesGrenz), Dr. Lynn H Cohick and I are writing a book together! It is an introduction to the apostle's material world and embodied theology. This book is inspired by and dedicated to NT scholar Dr. E. Randolph Richards. #IVPAcademic

#8: Survival is an acceptable goal. But what about succeeding? – Don’t over-shoot your expectations for year one, especially with research and writing. What would a successful first year look like? It's worth considering this at the start.

#5: "I wonder why" is a powerful phrase – Curiosity is a lost relational art. "I wonder why my student responded that way? I wonder why my colleague is passionate about X? I wonder why the student performance on that assessment was low?".

#2: Begin to hone the craft of teaching – How? Read books on the topic, consult colleagues, experiment, and take notes on your successes and failures. You are an expert in your field. Now work towards expanding pedagogy.

#1: Prepare with rest and some prep – Give yourself a real break between the PhD and teaching, if possible. Then, prep. I *tried* to stay one week ahead on my prep. It also gave me permission to stop working on the weekends when the next week was prepared.

My 1 Corinthians graduate seminar is reading through Timothy Brookins' commentary and he kindly joined our class today via video call. It is always fun bringing authors to life for students! Thanks @brookins_tim!.

Though still evangelical myself, I have found sacramental and liturgical expressions of faith the most life-giving in light of deconstruction. Little me would have been worried about works-based faith. Fret not!.
The evangelical-raised me would have looked at my sacramental Christianity today and seen “a works-based yearning for God”. But the sacramental ordained me today sees how everything we do in body forms us spiritually. So I might as well be shaped in the cruciform way of Jesus.
