Thank you so much to all the speakers & participants (both online & in person) for joining us today at our conference „Exchanging Words“. It was absolutely fantastic! Special shout out to @HLaehnemann for her @TAYOxford tour & ofc to @Diane_Watt for a brilliant keynote lecture!

And then this poor guy (bishop), whose effigy is covered in carvings! The oldest we found on our quick scan was from the 1690ies!

Some more highlights: The cathedral‘s chained library! Couldn’t go inside but what I saw was already really cool!

We went to Wells following my fav fellow medievalist @katgvsmith‘s recommendation! And she was so right! It’s a magnificent cathedral! Bf made sure that I could get a video of the clock‘s tournament before we left! So cool! You‘d think he’d leaned to duck after 700 years…

I had been to Glastonbury before, but over a decade ago, so zero memories left. It‘s a very peaceful place & it must have been a real sight to behold in its glory days! What’s left is already quite impressive!

My medievalist ❤️ is happy 😍! Had a great day visiting @GlastonburyAbbe & @WellsCathedral1 during our little outing to Somerset! My amazing bf indulged me all day & listened to me being a nerd, from devotional communities & medieval Arthurian literature to gothic architecture!😊

Our friend @ctlnkane wrote a great recap on the Books of Hours Showcase we had back in February with the amazing @NewCollegeLib team. For those who missed it & ofc for the ones that attended - here's her deep dive into the manuscripts we got to see 😍: https://t.co/nyF1c0vJz2
It was fantastic! Thank you so much to @ctlnkane & Jessica from @NewCollegeLib for their fascinating talks yesterday! We all learned so much! And the manuscripts were just stunning! Also massive thanks to Dr Christopher Skelton-Foord @NewCollegeLib!

The interwar architects, Seely & Paget, are having a moment in the sector. One of their biggest restorations was @CharterhouseEC1. Our interns, Chris and Mattie, mined the archives to piece together their works & relationship to the site. Read more here:

As an almshouse, @CharterhouseEC1 provides care for an on-site community of Brothers (inc. women!) to this day. Izzy, one of our micro-interns, has written a great blog post on her contribution to our developing work around heritage & healthy ageing 👇🏻 https://t.co/Wy2ywhENhS

2 threads present for these historical iterations are restrictions & complaints! For the latter, toads play a very funny & surprising role🐸! Not my experience, our visit to the Charterhouse and the lunch with the residents was absolutely lovely & delicious & fully toad-free😄!

It was a blast looking at the role of food during the different stages of the Charterhouse, from Carthusian monastery, Tudor mansion to almshouse and school, the only problem was, that I was constantly hungry while working! 😂😋

Few weeks ago I did a fantastic micro-internship at the @CharterhouseEC1, in collaboration with @Oxford_Heritage & supervised by @rachel_delman, researching food practices at the Charterhouse throughout the times with a fellow intern. 🤓Here's our report:
