I'm not publishing much nowadays. I'm still on Twitter thought!. On the side, I'm working on SEO:.- I made a list of easy keywords to rank on.- I found bloggers in my niche and reached out.- I found bigger websites offering guest posts.- I'm preparing a quality article on Medium.

Why so many fakes ?. Spotting counterfeits in second-hand listings is actually very hard. There's a massive amount of listings and pictures are taken by individuals, thus hard to analyze. Learning to recognize items / counterfeits with AI took me years of work.

Why does it matter?. Fake products do not follow any regulation, and of course do not have the same quality as the original products. They can be plain dangerous. Also, if you buy one of these speakers, your money may be used to finance criminal activities (like dr*g networks).

Fourth step: Identify fake listings. The process involve 3 steps made with AI:.- Is the picture showing one of the speakers?.- If yes, is the "JBL" logo clearly visible?.- If yes, is the logo a sticker ?. All AI identifications have been manually reviewed later.

Third step: Learning to spot counterfeits. @JBLaudio provides us many advices to spot fake speakers on their website. One of the most visual indicators is the front logo. Fake speakers have a "sticker" logo that is very different from the original.

Second step: Finding products of interest. I used image recognition to isolate listings selling either a "Flip 6", "Charge 5", or "Xtreme 3" from @JBLaudio. (This was a custom model trained with PyTorch). Here is the repartition of products / marketplaces:

First step: Collecting data. For this analysis, I started by collecting around 200 000 second-hand listings on various marketplaces. All these listings were mentioning "JBL" or the name of one of the speakers.

Why it matters? . Counterfeited products do not follow any regulations, and do not match quality criteria of the original brand. Fakes are cheap products, and can even be dangerous. Buying such products also finances other traffics and crimes in general (like dr*g networks).
