I've bought this on Kindle, and have got the hardback on order. I think this is going to be really interesting.
Available to pre-order! My new book, "Someone Else's Music: Opera and the British" traces attitudes towards opera, 1920-2020. It reveals a forgotten history of popular opera-going, which challenges the elitism stereotype. It also examines when and why that stereotype arose. /

Here is a post that packs one hell of a punch.
When I was 14 and starting high school, my dad told me that no matter what stupid shit I did, if I ever called him at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, in a bind, and needed him to come pick me up, that i shouldn't hesitate to call—because, he promised me, we wouldn't talk about it.

If your religion is a purely private matter with no influence on your political practice, then what moral principles guide your politics and where do you derive them from?.
This was utterly disrespectful to my family, my constituents including the congregation, and the democratic process. My private religion will continue to have zero direct relevance to my work as an MP representing all my constituents without fear or favour. 3/3.

If I had the choice between Glastonbury or Mars it would be pretty close run thing.
The Block9 area of @glastonbury thinks we should “send them to Mars” including @jk_rowling for feminism or something.

RG's advice about friendship (and Friendship) is good advice generally, not just for conservatives.
From an interview with @McCormickProf & @CollegeFix:. TCF: What is your advice for young conservatives specifically?. RG: My advice is do not censor yourself. Do not pander to those who, for the most part, are on the liberal side … who would make the price of friendship be.

Falconer is wrong about the role of the HL. See the thread below, and see also this excellent post
This morning Lord Falconer, assisted dying bill sponsor, told BBC R4 it was "correct" that the role of the Lords was to "ultimately uphold something that the directly elected members of the Commons have decided to go ahead with" (in the presenter's words). That's not right. 1/-.
