Out checking fences this afternoon, I found this Bulbine Lily (Bulbine bulbosa), the first of the season. #metz #armidale #ozPlants

I found a new-to-me group of about 10 Diuris sp. on the property. Dr. Lachlan Copeland in Coffs Harbour tells me that “it's what I call "Diuris sp. aff. alba (Northern Tablelands)". It's unnamed but reasonably common from about Werrikimbe NP to Gibraltar Range.” #metz #ozPlants

The wet/boggy ground is host to several patches of sundew (Drosera sp.) around the property. I’ve never before seen sundew in most of the current locations though I guess we’ve never before seen so many La Niña years in a row either. #metz #armidale #ozPlants

The colder mornings are almost over but there was still a decent frost this morning. This was the state of affairs as I headed off with the dogs a few minutes after sunrise (our local sunrise is currently at about 5:40 am). #metz #armidale #winter

Why is A4 paper sized as 210mm by *297mm* (not 300mm)? And an interesting explanation for why draughtsperson’s pens have the specific widths that they do. [ https://t.co/Wc3QWLpFvz SciLogs]:

I went to check on the last remaining (cherry?) fruit tree in the original hut yard (ca. 1886). The property was awarded as a conditional purchase so the owner had to plant fruit trees and put up fencing to satisfy the purchase conditions. The hut's foundations can still be seen.

It seems that much of little old Armidale now has Telstra 5G available. 375 Mbit/s isn't at all bad if that's your thing. Living rurally I'll have to stick to my NBN SkyMuster satellite's ~45 Mbit/s at home though. #metz #armidale #network

Another frosty morning with an overnight minimum of -4.1 °C. Apparently the dogs and I are just a shadow of our former selves. #metz #armidale #winter #frost

The official minimum overnight temperature was -6.1°C today. This barbed wire would agree that it was a tad cold. #metz #armidale #winter

News about UK heatwave: “Not everyone in the UK is at risk from extreme heat, with large parts of Scotland escaping the most extreme temperatures, but even here temperatures of 25°C (77°F) or above could push towards heatwave conditions.” 25°C !! https://t.co/10ldWiZvje

A plume of heat, with its origins in North Africa, will be extending over a wide area of Europe, including a large swathe of the UK over the coming weekend

So it rained. Again. Here’s the Gara River as it crosses the Gara Road, Metz, this morning. Going by the debris on the road, the river’s been somewhere between 1 and 2 metres higher in the past day or so. #metz #armidale
