Introducing a new type of civic tech made possible by AI. Every citizen should have a live, systems view of their government and today we bring that to SF! Track gov entities, spending, news, and more in real time. With LLMs, we can bring this to every city. Who's next?

At a party with a bunch of intelligent, capable PhD students from a top university. I was the only person with the โhot takeโ that humanityโs best days are ahead of us. Every one of them thought it was all downhill from here. Makes me sad.

Our primary goal is civic excellence, but secretly I also want to make systems thinking the default frame for complex problems and institutions. Some early signs that it's working?

Windows is more fun than Mac because the Windows key is like a little lottery ticket. Every press is a small but thrilling chance you'll get to use the software you paid for ๐ค Sorry for bothering you Clippy, maybe next time!

The people who poured their lifeโs energy into creating the world you now live in would be utterly astonished by the technology and prosperity you now consider mundane. We get used to things quickly, so donโt feel bad. Just take a moment to notice how far weโve come.

Cities are the atomic unit of civilization. If we canโt get it right at that level, why would states or the federal gov work better?

I appreciate when people acknowledge tradeoffs and hard decisions. Feels way more defensible than pretending to have the Perfect Solution or dodging the issues entirely.
Some of our principles are in conflict, so here is what we are going to do: https://t.co/UQA6ddG356

The SF Controller just published an audit which flagged ~75% of noncontract payments from the Human Rights Commission between 2020 and 2024. That's $4.6 out of $6.3 million. People ask about detecting fraud often but don't realize that much of the data is publicly available! ๐

Tragedy on Earth overshadowing incredible news on Mars. We will not flourish among the stars if we don't get our shit together down here. This is why I left the space industry. A long way to go.
After a year of scientific scrutiny, a rock sample collected by the Perseverance rover has been confirmed to contain a potential biosignature. The sample is the best candidate so far to provide evidence of ancient microbial life on Mars. https://t.co/0BAO1dhMG8
