People say summers are hot in Arizona. But summers are actually hotter in Alaska. For example, the mean average temperature in Fairbanks, AK in June, is higher than it is in Flagstaff, AZ. @Krissy_MeowMom

This highway in Washinton State is really quite something! You wind down, down, down to the Grande Ronde river (shown here), and then you have to wind back up, up, up the other side into Oregon. I don't think I've ever been a road with so many curves in such a short distance!

Death Valley is a lush rainforest compared to most of California in the summer months. In July, the driest station on the continent for annual precip (1.95"/year at Stovepipe Wells), gets 0.23" in July -- more than the driest 126 stations COMBINED! There are 750 stations in CA
