There have been lots of estimates of C emissions following the Australian #BlackSummer fires. How do they stack up against field observations? Our new paper looks at this, and post-fire tree mortality. 🧵 (1/ 8) https://t.co/Csb8q4iDIf

On this day in 1993, Nicky Winmar took a stand in defiance of racial abuse from opposition spectators. He raised his jumper and pointed to his skin, saying 'I’m black and I’m proud to be black’.

My understanding is that crown fire in eucalypt forest is mostly passive, though short (~50 m) bursts of crowning can occur ahead of the fire front. However, I recall an interview during the 2019 fires in northern NSW when a resident described active crown fire behaviour.

Hey #firebehaviour twitter, are crown fires in eucalypt forests (or plantations) mostly passive crown fires? Can large runs of active crown fire occur? @Phil_Zylstra @trentpenman @FireLab_UTAD
