🛌 BaYaka teenagers went to bed later than children, but they didn't sleep in! Everyone got up together with sunrise.

🧑‍🎓 BaYaka children's activity patterns varied within and between days, reflecting their foraging lifestyle, unlike the uniform daily activity observed in US children.

👦👧Unlike US children whose activity decreased with age, BaYaka children's activity levels increased into adulthood, regardless of gender.

🏃 Our research found that BaYaka children in the Congo Basin engage in over 3 hours of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) daily, 3x the WHO guideline amounts!.

Check out the full version here: , in which we discuss how our findings expand an understanding of mismatch in children's activity, gender equality in activity, and the role of formal schooling.

🛌 Older children went to sleep later.🌄 (but woke up at the same time). Teenagers did stay up later into the night, but when the sunrises, everyone gets up!.

🎂Children became more active with age. While US children peaked in their activity at around age 5 (as they start formal schooling), BaYaka children only got more and more active with age.

🏃BaYaka children were very active!. Undertaking over three hours of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, each day they did over three times the WHO minimum recommendations for activity. (Globally, up to 80% of children fail to meet the same 60-minute target!).

📣New Preprint . In new research done with @DybleMark Nik Chaudhary @davidabann and @DenizSalali we analyse patterns of physical activity amongst BaYaka children in comparison to US and UK children. What did we see? . Three key observations in the🧵.

Three years of work came to an end yesterday. Now, just a Viva to go! There are far too many people to thank for getting me here, but I wouldn't be here without the support and guidance of @davidabann @DenizSalali @DybleMark (full acknowledgements below)

I recognise that the reason I had wisdom teeth out last week is partially due to a dietary mismatch with our ancestral past, but I attribute the fact I had all four taken out to a German father that likes to cook vegetables like his steak - well done.
