I’ve been doing philosophy for 9 years now, and this morning my mother decides to, very casually, drop this bombshell.

The great Daniel Dennett has died. Terribly sad news. He was a wonderful philosopher and a wonderful human being. I will miss him greatly as I know so many others will too.

I'm very happy to share a new paper on the philosophy of psychotherapy: "On the Myth of Psychotherapy". To appear in Philosophy, Psychiatry, & Psychology. https://t.co/EhxDwR5TIq Many think that mental illness is a myth. Is psychotherapy a myth too? What does that even mean?

At the London Science Museum today and it’s great to see how many female scientists and engineers are represented on display without comment on their gender. This is so important for young kids who will visit and see women in industry completely normalised.

Ingesting gluten, even if *crumbs* or *particles* triggers the body to produce antibodies as if you had a virus when you have coeliac disease. Although symptoms may not be felt, the body is still attacking itself. Please be mindful of this if hosting a coeliac this holiday!

While it's great to hear about coeliac disease on mainstream media, there are a few errors here. EVERYONE with coeliac disease needs to be avoiding gluten, including cross contamination via the things discussed like chopping boards, utensils, and toasters (1/2).
Here's @thismorning's acknowledgement of Coeliac disease following the aftermath of Vanessa Feltz's comments yesterday. What do you guys think? @Coeliac_UK

Really pleased to say I passed my PhD viva today with no corrections 🥳 I’m so thankful to Ema Sullivan-Bissett and Luca Barlassina for such a lovely viva. Also hugely grateful to my supervisors Henry Taylor, Matthew Broome, and Ruth Page 🥰 #PhDone

Philosophy viva question: When people use post-it note tabs on their thesis pre-viva, what are people tabbing? Is it the main arguments? Places where you think you could've done something different? Something else? Let me know! 😊

There's a mole in my philosophy class who is giving out the attendance code to people who aren't attending...sneaky.

A strange feeling teaching Plato’s Republic to first years exactly a decade after learning it for the first time (using the very same copy).

Me: “I’ve come to terms with the fact that the only people who will ever read my whole thesis are me and my examiners” My 87 year old grandad: “print me off a copy and I’ll read it” 🥺🥺🥺

I’ve been teetotal most of my life. This post ⬇️ extends across socialising as a whole. There really are very few causal social options in an evening that aren’t drink related. I personally will still go along to pubs/bars, but almost always have to explain why I’m not drinking
I really wish not drinking was more normalized (or at least a neutral choice) especially in grad school. It seems like almost everything is shrouded in a cloud of booze: a celebratory beer, a shot to take the edge off, a cocktail to welcome a guest speaker.

I would also very often experience trouble concentrating due to the fatigue and neurological symptoms that I didn’t realise were being caused by coeliac. (Taking my score to 15, despite only answering 4 questions out of the 9).

Before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease, I scored incredibly highly on the PHQ-9 purely in virtue of the malnutrition I was experiencing. (Daily “sleeping too much”, “little energy”, and “poor appetite” due to bloating immediately took my score to 9).

More doctors should be like the one I had this morning who, after listening to me about my symptoms, asked me what I thought was going on. Patient-led and informed care is SO important (especially when there is a precedent for women's issues being downplayed).
