Pals, last night the NoL's best surviving German friend (well into his 80s), arrived after a huge drive. We were embracing in the street and I thought how very fortunate we are to have inherited an extra family.

Today I went to Mass for the NoL. I felt so upset by the whole thing I did not know where to be. Then we lit candles for him. And it was perfect.

In what seems like a hundred years ago, we made friends with a German family through the NoL, obviously, and now the daughter is 18 and driving, and the son is 15 and if he holds his arm out I can stand underneath it. What is this insanity?.
