We welcome the Urgent and Emergency Care Plan from @NHSEngland. Older people are one of the biggest user groups of urgent and emergency care services. We are pleased the plan recognises and addresses many of the issues affecting them. https://t.co/gxQ10cZ1BK

The vast majority of those who die each year do so in older age and 40% of people aged over 65 die in hospital. Many people end up in hospital as an emergency and die there. Better provision of end of life care might have enabled them to remain at home.
Around £22bn of public money is spent annually providing health care, social care and social security for people in their last year of life – with over half going on health care. 81% of health care funding is spent in hospitals.
