A new Slack survey reveals that more than 1 in 4 desk workers do not feel trusted at work, despite the data also showing that trust boosts both experience and performance in the workplace.

What's the easiest way to establish a toxic team culture? Show your team you don't trust them. Why? Feeling like you're not trusted also makes people put in less effort, feel less focused, less connected at work, and, ultimately, less productive. More:

To add to this great thread, I was recently the hiring manager for a (relatively rare) quant. research role at Slack that required little-to-no industry experience. 266 people applied. We made one offer and were very excited that @D_Wiwad (then a post-doc at Kellogg) accepted it.
In my experience, getting a job in tech was just as hard as getting positions on the academic market. The key difference was that I wasnβt stuck on a once-a-year schedule to apply to tech jobs. That and there was more than one role available in the city I wanted to live in.

Memo to execs that are somehow still worried that remote work may be "bad" for productivity: it's not (per our survey, 48% say it's better and 31% say it's about the same). What you should focus on instead: making sure you aren't exhibiting proximity bias (but you probably are).
Bosses and workers rarely agree on what matters when it comes to the future of work. But thereβs division even within the c-suite, particularly regarding the disparate treatment remote and in-office workers face, according to @FutureForum via @bbgequality.

This is such an important point, and one thatβs crystal clear in our @FutureForum survey data: βmany people can be productive outside the office, and quite a few are happier doing so. Thatβs esp. true for people with young children, long commutes, or minority workers.β.
From the weekend edition of the DealBook newsletter: After two-plus years of remote work, some C.E.O.s are trying to claw their way back to how things were, but they may find themselves fighting a culture shift beyond their control. by @vivian_giang.
