I wrote about Jableh, a coastal Alawite city in Syria. There’s been a lot of misinformation about what happened there in March. But like all political and violent events, the story began long before the explosion. @LRB

There are few in the Syria space who have maintained their moral clarity since 2011. @Loubnamrie is one such voice. Her latest article warns that, while Assad may be gone, an alarming authoritarian impulse remains ingrained in Syria's political culture. https://t.co/A1gQnnpxw2

I wrote about how the muscles of fear, obedience, and hero-worship do not simply disappear because the man who enforced them has fallen.

This piece by @Loubnamrie is essential reading for anyone that wants to make sense of the coastal massacre in Syria. Through two Alawite men it tells the story of how a combination of government abuses, disinformation and dashed dreams lead to bloodshed.

Syria’s new leaders vowed to break from past horrors, but grave abuses on a staggering scale are being reported against predominantly Alawite Syrians in the coastal region & in Homs & Hama. Summary killings & indiscriminate shootings have left 100s dead, entire families included.

And no, not all the victims are “former Assad soldiers.” some of them have been extremely vocal and critical of Assad, warning about the lack of accountability for his thugs.

There is ALOT of misinformation on this platform regarding recent events on the coast of Syria. If anyone is looking to interview witnesses of the recent killings, please reach out. Many victims are eager to share their stories. For those who don’t speak Arabic, I’m more than

IMPORTANT: Atif Najeeb, the notorious former head of Assad's Political Intel. branch in Daraa, has been apprehended in Lattakia In March 2011, Najeeb oversaw the arrest/torture of children for spray-painting anti-Assad slogans, sparking an uprising in Daraa. Very significant

Elizabeth Tsurkov is not only pro-Syrian revolution, she is also pro-Palestinian, Assadists will attempt to tarnish a person's noble legacy just because they refuse to share a bed with the dictators they adore. Freedom to @Elizrael from Iran's dungeons.

Below is a conversation between me and another individual who created a page to document atrocities. Interestingly, he was once part of the group Joshua mentioned but eventually distanced himself after recognizing how sketchy their actions were.

Using vulgar, dehumanizing language like "if you go there, you will get raped" DOES employs rape and sexual violence as an intimidation tool. AND There are millions of uncovered women in Syria, and to claim that women who are not covered are being raped is not only false but also

They have been posting misleading information and videos from Iraq, falsely claiming they are from Alawite neighborhoods, and urging Alawites to hold onto their arms and fight back.

It is important to note that while there are indeed serious violations happening, a “group of activists” who use sectarian language and advocate for Israel to take over the coast is not a group you should be supporting.
