If you want a short, savage novel about a frozen post-nuclear world, look no further than Anna Kavan’s magisterial Ice (1967). Unsettling, hallucinogenic, it feels like Kafka, Baudelaire and Brian Aldiss have taken a violent amount of drugs and written a book together.

kua 跨 means to cross, 跨年 means to cross into the new year; kua 跨 is also the first character (the trans-) of kuaxingbie 跨性别, which means transgender happy trans year everyone :3 the message below reads "new year blessings, blue, pink, and white dreams come true"

using this as an excuse to say: african american writer John Wideman is brilliant and a great example of this -- his prose is complex and experimental, sonorous and lexically dense, gothic at points while being inextricably linked with aave and Black identity in america /tw gore

theres a passage in @sinanantoon ‘s “The Book of Collateral Damage” describing this scenario in a moment of mundane hopelessness that has always stuck with me, even amongst the sections of wordlessly poignant, lyrical, semisurreal language constituting the fictional manuscripts
it sucks so bad that if you want to study arabic in an american college class theres a 50% chance that some of the people there are chuds like these with the motive of doing so to further destabilize the region and theyre extremely haughty about it too

my favorite linguistic quirk in any language has to be the m-reduplication in turkish, which consists of repeating a word with an m-prefix to mean "and other things like this". so e.g. "kitap" is book but "kitap mitap" is "books and some other book-like things"

Here, swirls of shivering and solitary sparrowsong linger amidst sparse leaves, car crashes, callous faces, and sobering pipe-dreams, steeped in the autumnal eternities of old empire, alongside suicidal nomads nestled amongst multistory buildings on mizzling days
